“Amazing Food, Amazing Staff”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 26, 2013

Myself and my colleagues recently had lunch at the Holiday Inn and I must say both the food and service were second to none :)

The staff were very friendly and efficient and there was a variety of food on offer to suit all of us!

There was plenty of variety and the food was freshly cooked and very nice!

I would definately recommend the Holiday Inn Heathrow as a Hotel of Choice and will certainly be going back very soon!!

We chose this hotel due to it low price and proximity to Terminal 1 because we were arriving on a very late flight from the states (after waking up at 3 a.m.) and anticipated being too exhausted to take the Tube all the way to our London destination. Although it is close to the terminal, it's one of the last stops on the shuttle bus, which cost money and doesn't run very often, so it took us an hour to get there from the airport - if I'd known that, we would've just gone straight to London. But, that's not the hotel's fault. The staff was very friendly and gave us chocolate eggs at check in because the next morning was Easter. Our room was very compact but well-designed, clean, quiet and we slept well. The only issue was that the sleeper sofa wasn't made up and one of its legs was broken, so we had to get bedding from the front desk and prop the corner on a chair, but this may have been because Hotels.com goofed up our reservation to say we were one person rather than three.

Dear glaciergirl3

Its great to see you you enjoyed your stay with us and thank you for all your kind comments regarding service, facilities, value and cleanliness. Whilst we are the last stop on arrival from Terminal 1 at Heathrow we are the quickest upon departure as the bus leaves from us and proceeds directly to Terminal 1.

This hotel is perfect when you are travelling via Heathrow Airport. The staff is very kind! And the hotel offers a regular shuttle bus service to Airport. The room are big enough for 1 or 2 people. Very clean and comfortable!

Room Tip: Rooms on the first floor are very quiet.

Very nice, clean, modern hotel with great facilities! We had a very good nights stay before our early morning flight (from Terminal 3 - not too far from airport), shuttle to airport very easy to arrange, not too noisey, not a single complaint!

This is an ideal hotel if you are "in transit" via Heathrow airport. The staff are welcoming, quick and efficient. The hotel is on a regular shuttle bus service with the airport and despite the proximity to both the airport and busy roads, I got an excellent night's sleep - and we certainly needed it as our flight the following day was delayed by nearly 2 hours!! The price is very reasonable for this sort of hotel in this sort of location - perhaps that was because I booked it through Booking.com

Much as I dislike travelling via Heathrow and although I didn't use the restaurant, I would have no hesitation is recommending this hotel for an overnight stop.

Room Tip: May be better round the back for road noise - I certainly didn't hear a thing.

After a long trip, the staff went beyond their call of duty to ensure that the check in process is fast and efficient. Rooms are big and clean with all amenities necessary for the stay.
Well connected, 2 min walk will take to a bus to central bus station at terminal one. From there Underground to central London.

Maybe it's the value of land around Heathrow Airport versus the hotel-room price that the market will bear. Maybe it's that business travelers often have to take what they can get. Maybe it's callousness on the part of the owners of this particular hotel. -- For whatever reason, this hotel is shockingly substandard. -- First, the entire design is utterly lacking in charm. In the rooms, not everything works (my bathroom sink drained slowly because of a broken stopper mechanism, and the toilet-paper spindle flew across the room when the roll was touched--both problems that a housekeeper should have spotted). Wifi usage is automatically checked, and you are stopped after 30 minutes of free usage per day (other HIs let you keep logging in to the free-use account). To use Wifi for 24 hours, you have to pay £ (GBP) 9.99; to use it for two hours they want £ 4, and they charge not by the room but by the device.
-- The worst aspect of this HI is the restaurant, and here is my experience. I arrived at the restaurant at 8:30pm on a Tuesday evening and found five of the 20-25 tables occupied, with a maitre d'hotel and three waiters working. The dinner buffet, which was £ 19.95, looked uninspired, so I decided to choose from the menu. Waiters walked by me again and again, looking into middle distance. It took 15 minutes for one to focus his eyes on me, walk over, and start my order. It took 10 more minutes for a glass of wine to appear, 20 more minutes for a simple salad to come, and 20 more minutes for my dinner to arrive. -- The salad was a quarter cup of arugula leaves strewn over three bufala mozzarella slices, three small Roma tomato slices, and two tiny (2-cm each) sticks of avocado, drizzled with approximately 1/2 teaspoon of reduced balsamic vinegar. For this I paid £ 6.95 ($10.64). -- But the "spring vegetables" pasta took the prize: a cup and a half of ordinary cooked penne in an ordinary cheese-and-tomato sauce, with a layer of cheese baked on top; inside I found two 1-cm chunks of zucchini and one 1-cm chunk of tomato. This was accompanied by two slices of garlic toast, for the sum of £ 14.95. With the £ 7.70 glass of okay but not remarkable Chardonnay, plus the 10% service charge that the restaurant automatically tacked on, my extremely substandard dinner came to £ 32.56 (just about $50).
-- All during the 90 minutes that I was awaiting this dreadful excuse for dinner and mentally writing this review, the bar 50 feet away was full of people shouting and laughing at the tops of their lungs. Most of the time, the waiters seemed to be with those people. Liquor earns an establishment quick and easy money with no effort, so perhaps the hotel's business plan includes ignoring diners and catering to the bar crowd instead.
-- Please read my and others' reviews of the Holiday Inn in Winchester for a complete difference. That hotel's restaurant is so good, so imaginative, and its menu so beautifully executed and served that people drive out of their way to dine there, even if they're not staying at the hotel. Apparently the Winchester HI has a completely different caliber of management.
-- Note that the service at the HI Heathrow's front desk is good, and the double glazing on the room windows blocks out the noise of traffic a few yards away. Those were the only good things about my stay at this HI.

Room Tip: Go elsewhere.
