Witton castle was great for kids. But our caravan we rented was (silver) dirty and had rubbish under the sink that was rotting off the previous people. The entertainment was good and the people were friendly. Shame the caravan let everything down !

We hired a caravan for a week, it was clean and tidy and spacious and the park itself was just lovely, we explored the are went on woodland walks etc and had a very good time. Although there's a play park the kids got a little bored as the kids room in the castle isn't up to much. We forgot our towels and the staff couldn't help us, and the caravan didnt have a tin opener.Other than that I have no complaints it was good for a peaceful holiday
No wifi by the way

Thank leanne g

We travelled for a weeks stay and had a great time. We went for walks and also visited yorks moors and beamish museum. To cap it all we settled for the bar on the weekend and had lovely food and watched the entertainment team of Buddy and Sam (and press the button old man lol) and loved them. There was also a professional entertainer hired in who wasn't too bad. The ENTS team provided brill fun and games for the kids, disco karaoke and bingo in between artiste so it rounded off a super time for us all. We will definitely return next year

I have been on numerous occasions to Witton Castle. The grounds are truly amazing and the castle is stunning. The food here is great value for money. Very well run and a delight to visit.

We stayed at Witton Castle last year and I posted a very good review of the touring caravan site. Unfortunately, since then the touring site has deteriorated so much and I find it neccessary to revise the previous review. The receptionist who booked us in didn't seem bothered and allocated us a pitch. She said in passing as I walked out of the door " If there is somebody already in it then just go anywhere!!!: What kind of regulation is this????? We arrived at our allocated site to find a huge motorhome with an absolutely enormous ridge tent and a barrier of windbreaks surrounding both taking up two spaces so we couldn't physically get the caravan into the pitch! Being a Bank Holiday the site was full so we had to dump the caravan in a most unsuitable place and set up camp. We were told that all electric pitches had water and waste so we could hook up directly into the mains - most taps do not work and the waste water drains were blocked or had no covers! Where is the site regulation???? No one from management bothered to come to the touring field to ensure that facilities worked or to make sure that people were not sprawling accross as many pitches as they could!!!! The site was dirty with rubbish everywhere and people letting their dogs foul on the grass without picking up after them. The toilets were disgusting - even blood up the walls and on the flush of the toilet!!!! Where were the cleaners???? The showers resembled a muddy field after an event - come on people - clean up after yourselves - this isn't on!! The rubbish bins and dog bins looked as if they had never been emptied. Putting all this aside, we decided to make the most of a bad job and go for a drink at the castle. Big mistake. Instead of the quiet countryside retreat we found a TV mounted on the wall and football ringing out - who goes into the countryside to it and watch football? Then after ordering our drinks - glasses dirty - a disco started to blast out!! Can't think of anything worse!!!! We then went back to our caravan and retired to bed only to be woken at 2am in the morning by drunken oinks returning. Where is the enforcement of site rules????
You know, after saying all this, the static caravan park at Witton is absolutely beautiful and so well cared for. Are they letting the touring site run down so people wil be tempted to buy a Static Caravan - who knows. Our verdict - we are easy going, don't mind grubby toilets and shower blocks and are sympathetic to a bit of noise as people are on holiday but this was absolutely dire. If you want a quiet well kept site - AVOID THIS LIKE THE PLAGUE!!!
