“Friendly Staff/Great Location”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 18, 2012

Perfect location for downtown Southport and the promenade. Good nights entertainment also supplied with special dinner entertainment on the night we were there (Michel Buble impersonator). Food was very good. Nice bar area to just relax as well. This is a family owned/operated establishment. I'm sorry I lost the card with the names, but they were wonderful. It was our first night of the trip and our arrival was delayed from the morning to the afternoon so we we quite frazzled. They were very helpful in getting us settled in and feeling at ease. We felt like family by the time we left after two nights with them.

well,,,, i read some of the reviews AFTER i had booked this deal and quite frankly i was worried however the room we had ( room 2 )on the front was good with lovely clean linen and a little kichenette arangment in a cupboard, the bathroom was very small but the note on the door explained that as it is a grade 2 listed building no wall can be knocked down so they have to work with what they have got.room was a bit fussy with far too much furniture in it but very comfortable. callie who checked us in was very polite and friendly and the breakfasts were lovely, well cooked and well presented, but"" dinner"" on the first night which was part of the package deal was poor.not a 3 course but a basic main course with extra to pay for a starter and dessert, thats not what i would call"" dinner on the first night"" and other reviewers are right the floor in the dining room is a skating rink for anyone in heels,i would think it is a "health and safety issue,.. but overall it was a good value for money break and right on the seafront opposite the pier. i would certainly stay there again and for anyone looking for a well situated bargain break hotel it is ideal. but remember it says 4 star but i would say it was a 3 star

Booked a KGB deal; room, two mains, breakfast and spa access. We had asked when booking if we could have a room at the front, and were given a very basic room at the back. I told the lady on reception and she was really nice about it and changed our room to one at the front, which was a bit old but pleasant and clean. We booked the latest sitting in the restaurant which was 8pm on a friday night, which I found a little unusual. The offer that I had purchased was just for two mains, but I saw that the menu we chose from was £14.95 each for three courses and a bottle of wine to share, and when we added on the wine and two desserts to our offer it wasn`t that good a deal as we first though when compared. The house wine we ordered was a sauvignon blanc, we were given a pinot. Nice, though. The food was lovely, although extremely small portions. A very nice touch was a lounge singer who was great, and made the atmosphere really cheerful and lively. As several other reviews have mentioned, the floor is extremely slippy and the staff are aware of this. I`m sure people have skidded on it before, and I nearly ended up on the floor. That aside, if I could review the hotel stay and meal and then afternoon tea seperately I would have given the former a high rating. Unfortunately we also bought the groupon afternoon tea voucher and it really brought the stay down. The sandwiches were weary looking, and the cheese on the sandwiches was mouldy. We sent them back and were offered a steak and onion toastie instead. It was edible but really not what we wanted. The sponge cake was very nice, but the scones were really hard, and there was the sacreligeous squirty cream instead of real cream, which for afternoon tea is like a chinese tea cermony with Bettabuy teabags. We weren`t provided with any cutlery for the cake, or a hammer for the scone. The offer stated that full price it should have cost over £20 perhead, but really wasn`t worth even half that. Judging by the tables filled with unhappy-looking middle-aged women I don`t think I am alone in my view. In fact, the atmosphere was like a cowboy saloon, pre-lynching. So to sum up; THe hotel was acceptable and clean, the staff were lovely, but the afternoon tea was a sorry jamboree the likes of which I hope never to experience again. SQUIRTYCREAM!!!

Room Tip: Room 12 was nice

had champagne afternoon tea for £19 for 2 and enjoyed it. Wouldnt pay be cost quoted on groupon though at 60% more rated value.
we had a glass of champagne each , then was given pot of coffee for 2 before the food was brought out. This consisted of 2 cheese , 2 cucumber and 2 salmon sandwiches , slice of cake and scone with cream and jam
The waitress was attentive and considerate when we asked to move tables

We were staying in Southport for a mate's wedding - and like most people didn't want to blow our budget - but perhaps sometimes - deals are too good to be true!
Room was in need of serious updating and there was very little practicality about the room - plugs near mirrors for hairdryer etc. - The big clanger was the shower - which barely worked and no back up of a bath! This was a deal breaker really. We stayed for two nights - and in this time the room was not attended to at all - i.e. tea/coffee, towels and toilet paper - poor show - I'm afraid.

The only positive - the food in the restaurant below was very good and the staff pleasant...

Room Tip: Avoid room 20

Stayed at this hotel with 2 of our best friends and we were offered three very different rooms. Every room had a little kichenette which we have never come across before in any other hotel and it would be very useful if you were staying for a longer period. The food in the hotel was exceptional, the evening meal was fabulous and I had the best steak that I have had in years. The breakfast the following morning was the best I have had anywhere. The staff are absolutely fab. Kelly and Adam are really welcoming and great company. Luckily for us we had the bridal suite which was o.k. The other rooms need updating and they are getting around to it. The atmosphere was good and overall we had a great time and laughed a lot. There was a massive difference in the rooms we were allocated and it would certainly influence your stay.

Room Tip: Not room 12 or 14

Decided to drive down from lancaster and stay in southport. We didn't book and tried a couple of hotels before we managed to get a room at £60 incl breakfast. This hotel is a listed building and room 1 is very dated with small shower room. However a comfortable bed and no noise from outside but blackout curtains are needed as the sun woke us us early. The staff in this hotel are great.... from the front desk to the chef's, a credit to the hotel. We were advised by the nice lady who booked us in the food in the evening was fantastic..... a sales pitch maybe but we gave it a go. The two lads who cooked our meal deserved a gold medal..... three courses and a bottle of wine for £14.95 ea. The food was as good as i've had in fine restaurants and available to non residents..... and any hotel that serves peroni is good in my book.
