Recommended by a local as we were visiting Southport. Just off Lord Street this pub was busy at lunchtime and no wonder. The array of cask beers was impressive and the homemade pub grub was excellent. Menu included steak pie and peas, Lancashire hotpot, hot steak sandwich and tried and tested favourites. So impressed popped in same evening for a few more beers.

One of the few remaining real pubs in the centre of Southport. It always has at least 10 real ales on offer, served by efficient, knowledable staff. No singing, no dancing, no swearing, just well kept real ales in a friendly atmosphere. Long may it continue.

This is really one of those pubs youve just got to love!

I keep going back to the guest house because it is a proper traditional pub. The frankly huge selection of ever changing ales are always kept perfectly, with friendly competent and knowledgeable staff always on hand to point you in the right direction should you have trouble chosing!

The food selection, although not huge and only served at lunch times, is all home cooked and very tasty- try the pies, you will not be disappointed!

All in all, a great pub full of characters, character, and most of all, great beer!!

My wife introduced me to this when I moved into Southport - her favourite pub in the town centre, and I can see why!

Several rooms make up the ground floor of the pub, which reduces the overall noise level of an often busy time.

The choice of mainly cask ("real") ales is extensive and the choices vary from week to week. If you're a smoker there is a small well-enclosed area at the back - not exactly a "pub garden", but does have some planting around it.

Freindly staff and customers, but also nice and cosy for two. One of our favourite haunts :-)

A clean and friendly pub just off Lord Street serving basic pub grub and bar snacks. A good choice of real ales at reasonable prices. There are three separate seating areas and a nice atmosphere generally. Worth a visit as recommended in the Good Beer Guide too.
