Britannia Prince of Wales - Southport
Ranked #17 of 23 Hotels in Southport
Reviewed October 8, 2013

We stayed at this hotel in early October for our 45th wedding anniversary. Booking in was quick and easy and we were in our room within 5 or 6 minutes of arriving.
The room. Adequate, just big enough, but no window, and the temperature in the room was almost unbearable. There was a air-con unit on the wall and we quickly put it on.....on full. when we came back to the room some three hours later the temp had hardly fallen. Not comfortable.
The temp in the lounge was also very high.
Other than this, the hotel was fine. The breakfasts were excellant. Very tasty fare. The bar prices were very reasonable for a hotel chain.
Would recommend, but leave your woolies at home

Room Tip: Don't have a room on the first floor with M in the room number!

Hotel seemed nice (Different) and staff friendly and helpful.
The room we got was very spacious no21 bottom floor but no view from the window just a brick wall, which to be fair we didnt mind but think we should of been told when booking.
Cheap bar but entertainment was more like karaok so we went out for a drink.
Again the carpark was full by no residents so another 7.30 wake up to put a parking ticket on the car, luckily we managed to park very close to the Hotel.
The biggest let down for me was the poor food, buffet style self service for main meals and breakfast. I'm not a snob or the best cook in the world but if I stay here again I'm eating out :(

Back in the Victorian era this imposing hotel on Lord Street was the place to be. Now it caters more for those of mature years who find that inclusive tours meet their needs. This hotel nearly achieves this, as nearly everything is adequate, except for the lifts. Be warned: only one 4 person lift does not meet the needs of mainly elderly guests in 300+ rooms on 4 storeys, especially when they have to carry their own luggage. The hotel, part of the Britannia Group which owns Pontins, operates very efficiently and generally provides good value for money.

We arrived at the hotel on Friday 4th oct for the southport firework display. On our arrival we were told the hotel car park was full so we'd have to park in the side street but don't worry it was free. What they failed to say was it was free from 6pm until 8am meaning I had to set an alarm for 730am to go out and put a ticket in the car. Absolutely ruined our weekend having to set an alarm on a night away. The worse part? The hotel was no where near even half full so how does a hotel fill a car park for 81 cars when the hotel is probably at 25% capacity? That's right allow, non residents of the hotel to park their car here.

The rooms themselves are tired and worn, stains on the floor, wall paper peeling and holes in the wall where it looks like something has been launched at it. Now we are not ones to complain about hotels and often read reviews and think, it wasn't that bad, people complain about anything but this really was that bad. I wouldn't stay here again if You paid me the £60 to stay here.

me and my husband went for a 2 night KGB deal £99.00 bed breakfast evening meal, bottle of wine included, yes the hotel is dated but its clean and comfy, full English breakfast, good selection of food for main meal, £1.75 for a pint of bitter, cheap bar, friendly and helpful staff, both me and my husband are in our earlie 50s I think we was the youngest ones there, but its central to all shops and cheap bars ok for a short break

we went for the air show 13 and14th of September and stayed her for two nights bed breakfast and evening meal 120 pounds for two fantastic value for money all the meals where very pleasant with plenty of choice the bar was excellent with a good choice of beers and very reasonably priced our room was huge and nice and warm we had a jacuzzi type bath with en-suite bathroom. there is reasonable entertainment and it was very good. you can park your car all-day for 2 pounds which is not bad considering air show weekend. maid service was daily and was very good but take your own bath towels as there's are pretty small [ not white ones or the hotel might change them for the hotels] brilliant stay will book again for next yea. this is not 5 star but another brilliant value for money hotel the red arrows where fantastic and flew straight over the hotel as was the rest of the show

Room Tip: stick to the back its quieter

I guess you get what you pay for. A very tired hotel - in need of a huge amount of investment. Our room was pleasant and clean although the bathroom had seen better days. The breakfast situation was slightly odd with uncovered teabags on a a stained saucer the table - flask of hot water was provided. Good position though. Depends what you are looking for but I'd rather stay in a Premier Inn for probably similar money. Sorry Prince of Wales!
