I come every year as we live within walking distance of the sea front. If you buy tickets on the day, note that kids pay the same as adults and the ticketing booths can be hard to find (at the far end of Ocean Plaza by the park in a rather run down portacabin).

Red arrows always a highlight, but do check when they are coming as sometimes they are at the beginning of the show, and other times at the end. Planes go past at a good frequency, so there isn't too much sitting around with nothing going on. If you aren't going to pay, you can get a pretty good view from the Ocean Plaza car park, but you won't see any of the staged pyrotechnics on the beach, or some of the low level stuff. If you do go inside, would suggest you do so early on to get the best value for the entry price. Bring a blanket or something comfortable to sit on, and something warm if the weather is dull. Perches on the sea wall are hard to come by, and the concrete slope down to the actual beach is hard on the bottom. Young kids can find the noise a bit distressing (when really young, mine hated the Typhoon) but may end up playing on the beach, so you might need some wipes, etc.

All the usual over-priced fast food - burgers, chips, doughnuts, ice creams. Would suggest bringing in your own drinks and some food. Kids will also be drawn to the many stalls selling toys.

This was a really good day out watching all of the planes flying around, some of the planes did dances and the red arrows were brilliant.

Yet again why pay to see what you can watch for free Vulcan is the only one to see here Southport trying to update its lost youth. Time to update the town and welcome the visitors not chase them off with traffic wardens who have no sense or humour better off staying at home.

We went to the airs how on our motorbikes, and our family went in cars, we were able to get through the traffic jams and arrive in time, they were not and were stuck for 2 hours, go very very early to avoid the jams. Sat ourselves on grass verge, didn't need to pay for car park as we could see clearly.
