The Imperial Tenby Hotel
Ranked #18 of 23 Hotels in Tenby
Reviewed December 28, 2013

Just before Christmas my wife and I stayed at this hotel with Shearings, on their Coast and Country Break. The Imperial Hotel literally grows out of the cliff face, offering truly unspoilt views out to sea.

Unbeknown to us our children had upgraded us to a sea view...and what a view! We were lucky to be put in Room 33. If you do book, spoil yourself and ask for this room, it's amazing. We won't say what's in it, it'll spoil the surprise. We would have been quite happy to pull up a chair, stare out of the bedroom widow for the duration of our stay.
The hotel itself is very nice, plenty of space to relax, two bars and a 'sparky' grand piano playing easy listening music all on it's own. Big picture windows so you can look out at the beach and sea whilst having your meals.....
All the meals were excellent, good choice, well cooked and presented. We've been on quite a few Shearings jollys and usually the meals are rushed through by an energetic staff...Not so The Imperial, meal times were easy going, civilised affairs, nice and relaxed.

All the staff were very helpful, smartly dressed and efficient. If we had to single out one in particular it would be Zeus, the wine waiter.....great bloke.

Pembrokeshire is a superb part of Wales and Tenby itself is a nice, compact place to wander around. The beaches are special - big and wide!
There are plenty of shops and pubs - One pub is just around the corner from the Hotel and well worth a visit!!!

Negatives? If we were to be really picky, which is not our style usually, we noticed an abundance of boot scuff marks on fire doors ( easily cleaned, but it was something that hit us straight away)

That's it. To sum up. One great Hotel, Magic room, great views, great staff, great food.

Quick mention for our coach driver Tony, who hadn't been to Tenby before. Very nice, helpful and kept his cool driving around Pembroke and when dealing with a wonky coach door!

Room Tip: Any sea view.....but if you can, treat yourself to Room 33!

We stopped in Tenby as part of a 'day trip' and The Imperial was the first hotel we tried for a room. We asked for a sea view if possible and the room they offered gave us the most fantastic view!!!
The room had a massive balcony but was not a patch on the room!! The four poster bed was 'lost' in the amount of space this room offered. It was complimented by a beautiful en-suite and sitting area. We would highly recommend this hotel to anyone

Many thanks for taking the time to post your comments. I'm sorry to see that you had problems with the service in the dining room and during your stay and as you may have seen from previous postings this is not our normal comments at the Imperial hotel. I will investigate all areas you point out and I am sorry that you felt the accommodation and cleanliness was not up to standard and I will look into the room in question. I do hope that you choose to come back again and I am positive you will see a remarkable improvement.Regards, Simon

This hotel is located directly on the edge of the cliff offering un-interupted views of the beach and sea below. It is very central to the town also. The bedrooms are in need of a makeover, but are a good size with a comfortable bed and very clean. The restaurant and function room are more modern and provide a great place to eat with a real feeling of being 'at sea'. Breakfast was cooked to order and very good. Car parking may be an issue as they have limited space, but a public car park is only about 100 yards away and cost £5 for 24 hours. I would definately stay here again.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the beach

having enjoyed several visits over the last decade it was pleasing to find Shearings continue
the good work of restoring this remarkable gem, .even improving the comfort and service.
few hotels can match its stunning situation next the castellated town walls atop the cliff and dining at sunset in autumn has to be memorable in the splendid restaurant, suitably named the cliffhanger. car parking is much easier. staff are attentive, cheerful and most helpful and the
value for money hard to beat with very modest single supplement.
road works promise massive improvement to the A477 near St. Clears, some ten miles east, for next season. I'll return soon.

We booked this hotel on the spur of the moment I phoned first thing and was offered a superior room at a competitive rate. I hadn't stayed at this hotel before but stay regularly at others in the area
The reception staff were very helpful on arrival
the room was huge with spectacular views from a lovely spacious balcony ,a very comfortable bed ,nice shower and bathroom all were clean and tidy
well done to the housekeepers
We booked for dinner although we stayed b&b and payed separately in the morning , the steak was succulent and well cooked to our liking the waiting staff were polite friendly and efficient
thank you Steve and staff
A wonderful view from the dining room although a gloomy day
Breakfast was not the most luxurious I have ever encountered but certainly adequate cereal ,porridge fruit ,tea and toast available and I got exactly what I asked for on my full cooked breakfast and more options also available
I would defiantly stay here again and will be looking for half board offers from this hotel
only one comment I would like to make that could be defined as negative please could you find somewhere to put the ironing board as it stands out like a spare groom at a wedding in the lovely room 22
Finally a big thank you to all the staff that made us feel welcome and treated us so well

Room Tip: Ask for a upgrade we had room 22 the view was amazing and well worth any extra cost for the lovely b...

Just returned from jet another Shearings holiday ,Lovely hotel .
Staff ,dining room ,driver ,food, bathroom and views all excellent .
We stayed in superior room on arrival at 6 pm our room was cold ,the two small radiators were not big enough for the large room.,It did not warrant the £160 extra we payed for a superior room.

Room Tip: Ask for a warm room.
