“ANOTHER GREAT STAY AT SALTERN CARAVAN PARK”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 10, 2012

My family had yet another lovely stay at Saltern Caravan Park in September. The welcome was just as warm and the service as good as ever. Our two bedroom caravan was clean and tidy with everything we needed for our holiday. On our arrival we were, as usual, asked to check that we could operate all the appliances in the caravan and when I called back to say we were having trouble lighting the oven, Chris called in to see us within the hour to fix the problem! Julie helped us out in planning things to do and on one rainy day we took her advice and caught the train to Swansea for an action packed day out! So thank you Chris and Julie for another lovely stay, we look forward to seeing you again next year!

lovely small friendly site. well maintained and clean. it is a quiet family site, no club house so if you are looking for evening entertainment you've got to go into tenby or choose a different site, but we wanted a nice family site and that's what it is!
its easy to get into tenby town, they say 10 minutes walk and it is!
I dont drive and found everything easy to get to and buses regular. right outside site! vans were clean and well maintained and were exactly as described on the write up. Not a 5* hotel but excellent standard for static caravans. nice little kids park and laundry was very handy! gardens around vans were well maintained and added to the nice appearence of the site.
nearby shop at garage handy but a bit expensive, supermarket about 5 mins walk away or tescos express in town centre, much cheeper!
tenby has lovely beaches, just wished we'd had more sun that week!

We came during the last week of the season not a good idea weather wise, was very dated and we picked the biggest one as we have a 21 month old little girl so she didn't feel cramped. Our bedroom had good storage space but the bed was a three quarter so not big enough for two adults! We did find two dresses under the bed which had been left obviously by the previous people. The mattress was like sleeping on a bed of rocks and in the other room where my daughter was the beds were so tiny and again very uncomfortable. It was soooo cold at night and first thing in the morning due to the windows having gaps which need replacing. We had to have two duvets on our bed as the heaters were as much use as a chocolate fireguard! We ended up with our daughter in our bed every night guessing it was because it was cold and the bed was so uncomfortable for her.
The shower was always nice and hot and the oven and hob was a good standard.
The location is obviously what attracts as it only takes 5 mins in car to get into the town or 10 mins walk. It was my first time to Tenby and i loved the place and surrounding areas, plenty of things to do and see. We went to Folly farm and Manor Park both in Tenby great for kids. Plenty of beaches too and very clean.
As there was a washing machne and tumble dryer on site i decided to use them so i didn't have it all to face when i got home. I wish i hadn't bothered as the clothes had a horrible smell to them even though i used branded washing powder. The tumble dryer didn't dry the clothes and put it on 3times and gave up.
I can't comment on the service as only saw her on check in and check out and didn't ask if we had good holiday ect.
If they updated the site i.e buy newer caravans it would be more appealing as it is a prime spot. I am sorry to say we wouldn't stay here again as i need my sleep and a decent mattress is a must.

Ths was the first holiday I have been on as a lone parent. I don't have a car so I wanted to ensure I stayed somewhere I could access the local area without too much difficulty and I was not disappointed.

On arrival we were told there had been a problem with our caravan so we were upgraded for free to another caravan 2 price tiers above the one we had paid for. The caravan itself was spotless and contained everything we needed for our stay. The bedding was clean and of good quality, the bed was amazingly comfy and myself and my son slept well every night without exception. We found the kettle was a bit leaky and when we mentioned it at reception it was replaced without any hassle.

The park is within close proximity to Tenby centre including all 4 beaches and we could easily walk to most places within about 15-20 minutes. There is a good sized Sainsbury's nearby to stock up on essentials and a free park and ride bus leaves from just outside the caravan park for those who don't want to walk too far. We were quite lucky with the weather the week we stayed but on the 1 rainy day we did have we jumped on a bus to nearby Heatherton which is really good for older kids. My son loved the go karting and water activities there.

When we handed the keys back in at the end of our stay Julie asked what time our train was due to leave and when she realised we had almost 2 hours to kill she offered to store our suitcases in an empty van so we didn't have to lug them around. Thanks to this we were able to buy a packed lunch for the return journey and spend a last few moments on the beach.

My son is already asking to go back and we will not hesitate to return next year

We have stayed in Tenby before and chose to return for the beaches. We wanted a site close to the town and beaches and chose Saltern Caravan park as the reviews were generally good. However, after travelling for 6 hours with 2 young children, we were quite disappointed to find that we had to spend 2 hours cleaning the caravan before moving in. (Not really what we wanted). The toilet had not been touched, the shower had soap scum and hair in the base. The main thing was the whole of the non-carpeted area of the caravan was filthy. We thankfully had some wet wipes with us which came in very useful all round!! Apart from that, we had an enjoyable week. We suggest the cleaners are provided with a mop because we did not see any in their trollies when packing to leave. (We were in number 16). Our parking area was not ideal as we were having to park on very wet ground which made going in and out quite stressfull with trying not to damage the grass area too much. Perhaps a hard or slabbed area should be made as rain is not uncommon in this area??!!!!!!!!

We have stayed at Saltern Caravan park a couple of times now and we find the park very relaxing and peaceful. the caravans are well equiped for everything you need for a self catering holiday. The park is in an excellent location for Tenby town centre and surrounding attractions. Chris, Julie and Ben made us feel very welcome and we will definitely return in the future.

First time at this site after reading good reviews, won't be staying there again!
I opened the door to our 3 x bed caravan #42 to be hit with the smell of cigarette smoke, it was the same in every room, you could actually taste it. My husband asked Julie if there was another van available (I was actually ready to depart for another park), she gave us keys for #41 which was much better (smoke free) it obviously hadn't been used for a while as there was dust and dead flies around all the window grooves, but I thought let's just get on with it.
I have to say the bed is the worst caravan bed I've slept in, the springs were not far off poking through, very uncomfortable.
We decided to cook our evening meal later in the week, what a disaster, something which should have been cooked on gas mark 4 for 30 minutes took over an hour on gas mark 9 clearly something wrong with that oven, grill wasn't much better. When I came to peel potatoes, no potato peeler, not even a knife, apart from a large bread knife. Poorly equiped, basics weren't even there.
Lighting in lounge and kitchen area was so dim it was gloomy, you couldn't read in that light, so had to read in bed. We visited some other Caravan parks and viewed the caravans which were much better and cheaper.
On a brighter note the site was handy for Tenby beach, walking distance 10 mins, a good Sainsburys 3-4 mins up slight hill, didn't use the free bus into the town, for us it was quicker to walk, for anyone less able a fabulous service.
