“My Stay At The Giltar Hotel Tenby”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 23, 2014

Me and my husband booked a double room for the weekend for his birthday.
We have just returned home after a horrible experience.
The room was shabby old furnishing and very disappointing !
The Floor was not level and resulted in the bed sloping down hill !
Just terrible the food was ok
And even though the staff were nice the hotel has gone to the dogs !
Way overpriced and other rooms which had been updated and furnished nicely.
There was a draft coming from the widows and resulted in being freezing cold and even the curtains were blowing with the wind...
If i was aware of this place before we would never have paid £20.00 a night never mind the £85.00 we paid per night .
Overall the hotel was disgusting vile and would not recommend to anyone.

Room Tip: Check with Reception to make sure you have the rooms that are advertised

We are sorry to hear that you were not satisfied with your recent stay with us. We have refurbished a large majority of the rooms within the hotel including the bar & lounge on the ground floor and can see that you opted for a standard room at a lower cost than our Premier and Deluxe rooms. We ensure that all of our guests are informed at the time of booking that the standard rooms have not been refurbished and is also stated on our website. With regards to the draft, as our hotel is a Victorian building we’re unable to replace the windows with double glazing, however if we’d known about the draft referred to in your review a member of our team (who are available 24 hours) would have visited your room to resolve the issue or alternatively we could have moved you to a more suitable room and/or assisted you with the heating facilities as each room has storage heaters for guest comfort. Unfortunately we have been experiencing extreme weather conditions in Pembrokeshire of which we have no control over.

Stayed here for 2 nights 2 years ago, extremely clean, very pleasant staff, fabulous views of the beach and Caldy Island from our room, only had breakfast at the hotel but it was lovely, the only thing I was dissapointed in was that there was a wedding on 1 of the nights we stayed and we wern't able to use the bar but we were told that if we wished to purchase drinks the staff would sort it out however they now have a brand new bar on the ground floor which looks amazing on their website and I can't wait to go back for another stay.

Thank you very much for you review from your stay a couple of years ago. We had received similar feedback in relation to the bar not being available to non-wedding guests therefore at the end of last year we embarked on a large refurbishment of our lounge area adjacent to the reception which now has a bar available to guests at all times, including when we have weddings. We hope to see you back at the hotel soon.

My husband's family lives nearby, that's how we decided to hold the wedding dinner at the Giltar and got one complementary stay. The food was really nice, excellent service, and the room was superb which made us extend another night. We liked it so much we bought a dinning voucher for a Christmas present.

We had a great Sunday lunch today! Super food, lovely waiting staff and even the sun shone! Everything from the starters - parma ham, through the roast beef to the cheesecake was perfect But I couldn't manage the coffee as I had just eaten too much!
Thank you Giltar Hotel it was all perfect!

We've just returned from 3 nights at the Giltar and it was a fantastic stay in every respect. We arrived on spec after a 5 hour journey and the shock and disappointment that the hotel we had originally booked and paid for had closed down!
To say we fell in lucky at the Giltar would be a massive understatement. We were greeted warmly and invited to view any of the rooms before we booked but chose a deluxe room from the photographs in reception, which didn't do it justice at all. It was terrific - 6ft bed with top quality linen and a sea view to die for - and the bathroom was spectacular.
Also by the time we'd collected our luggage from the car and got to the room a birthday card was on the table waiting for me.
We ate in the restaurant on 2 evenings and the food and service was excellent. Breakfasts excellent too.
The best thing about the Giltar though is the staff, every one of whom was really friendly and helpful and nothing was too much trouble for anyone.
All in all a wonderful experience and we will be recommending the Giltar to all our friends - and we will definitely be back!
Thank you to everyone at the Giltar!

Room Tip: The deluxe rooms are a little more expensive but are definitely worth every penny.

We've just stayed at the giltar for 3 nights (fri-mon). Upon arrival at the hotel we were greeted by a very helpful and attentive lady on reception who told us everything we needed to know regarding the hotel (times of breakfast etc). She then directed us to our room. The room had a sea view as we had requested however there was only a shower. This wouldn't have been an issue however we don't have a bath at our home & therefore really enjoy the luxury of having one when we're away. We explained this reception and asked if it was possible to move to a room with a bath. They couldn't have been kinder about it. Malcolm, who I believe is the manager, upgraded us to a deluxe sea view room at no extra cost. A really kind gesture that made us feel very welcome and appreciated as customers. Every evening we'd have a drink in the newly refurbished hotel bar which was lovely. Good selection, well priced and always accompanied by a very high standard of customer service. The breakfast in the hotel is fantastic. You can order what you like rather than scooping congealed eggsetc onto your plate which a lot of places seem to do these days. Your breakfast is brought to you fresh. There are plenty of things to choose from too and the tea and coffee is regularly topped up by the attentive staff. All in all a wonderful visit again. Will definitely be returning again.

Excellent seafront hotel in a charming resort. We stayed in a newly refurbished room with a sea view. A little small but tastefully decorated and immaculately clean. Our stay was during the recent high winds and the bedroom windows rattled but I thing was unusual and unlikely to happen in normal conditions. Only had breakfast but this was excellent except for watery fruit juice, but this seems to be my complaint in every hotel I visit,
