Everything about this place is great. It was spacious, warm and comfortable. We had the facilities to cook a great Christmas dinner and enjoy the hot tub after as a family. The views are lovely as is the Thatch Pub just a five minute walk away. The cottage is a fair walk into Ilfracombe about 15 minutes to the harbour and I would recommend always booking a taxi back if you have kids or if you have any difficulty with steep hills. Most cab firms charge about a fiver from the harbour area. All in all a great place to relax and unwind. Lastly, we left our coats in the cupboard but they kindly returned them to us by post. Fabulous service.
We had a lovely few days in Ilfracombe - stunning part of the country and the location of the hideaway was ideal to make the most of it.
The facilities at the hideaway were pretty good - the hot tub and spa bath were particular favourites.
If I was to be critical the only thing I would say is that the single beds weren’t very comfortable(probably fine for kids but not so much for an adult), and think couple of areas need a bit of tlc (for example grouting in the shower rooms/cushions in lounge a bit dirty)
We would definitely visit again - thanks again Jo
We enjoyed a family beak here in this pretty seaside town. Lots of places to visit for all the family including the dogs. I would recommend anyone to go to Watersmeet. The forest and the river are beautiful. This was our most favourite day.
The Hideaway is a lovely, clean airy bungalow, very comfortable.
I would prefer to have mattress protector and pillow protectors but this certainly not a complaint, just a suggestion.
The only thing we were not happy about was the rubbish and recycling. There are no recycle boxes and we had so many activities booked that we didn't have time to start carrying rubbish with us looking for some recycling place to dispose of it. I think the owners should have a rethink about it
Beautiful place, equipped with everything you would need. Every little detail was taken care of. Definitely will be back!
Jo and her family have created a wonderful holiday home and we thoroughly enjoyed our weeks stay there.
What I personally really liked about the property was that it was fresh and modern with all the staple (and some luxury) amenities to make your stay comfortable and enjoyable.....it is however not so "showhome-like" to make you feel uncomfortable using any of it.
The hot tub was great and we enjoyed that on a couple of the better evenings we had.
We found the house v clean and tidy and was left a nice welcome basket which was a nice touch. The couple of minor queries/issues we had whilst we were there were dealt with v courteously and promply and couldnt have asked for more.
Just do be aware that the house is situated rather high up in the Ilfracombe hillside; I'd rather forgotten how hilly North Devon is having not visited since I was a child and getting to and from town whilst short in distance did prove rather a workout! Also the driveway access can prove quite tricky even for a confident driver....definitely do not try to reverse down or up the slope to get in or out as you will almost certainly come a cropper!
If we ever find ourselves looking to visit the Ilfracombe area I will be sure to contact Jo as would relish the oportunity to stay here again.
We have a had a lovely week in Devon, reuniting family from around the globe! The 3 shower rooms made mornings easier and the conservatory meant we could spread out on rainy days. Having 3 TVs to choose from was a bonus as was the efficient BBQ. We walked into Ilfracombe a lot and ate at the Thatch pub which was worth a visit as was Damien Hirst's bar/ restaurant ! We made use of the wet suits in the garage and would have taken the kayak out had we had a roof rack! Croyde bay remains a lovely beach to surf on providing you take care and Lynton is worth a visit! Having Tesco up the road was very handy and I think we may have boosted their profits for 2015.
We will seriously consider returning to the Hideaway, maybe out of season next time!

The Hideaway was (is) a lovely home away from home with all needs catered for. We even had jam, cream and scones and a bottle of wine waiting for us on arrival which was a real treat!
The decor and the standard of finish was perfect. We even had an extra room that we weren't expecting. Our teenage daughters spent most of their time in the jacuzzi and we would either join them, or sit in the conservatory watching the sun go down with a glass of wine ... bliss.
We went to the beach at Woolacombe a couple of times and took the wetsuits and surf board that were in the garage - brilliant!
The harbour with Verity and all the eateries was just a short walk down the hill, although it became a rather long walk back up again at the end of the evening!
If I had a write a negative it would be that Ilfracombe doesn't have a lot to offer teenagers, however ours were happy with the hot tub!
All in all it was a very relaxing break and I would definitely recommend The Hideaway. Thank you to the owners for putting the extra thought into the holiday experience.
