“Probally the best B&B I have stayed in”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 22, 2013

This isn't any old B&B ... this is Julienne's B&B. The room was first class, clean, fresh and the bed very comfortable, with a fridge and mini bar which you don't normally expect. The en-suite spacious, modern and clean. Far better than some 4 star hotels, certainly more superior than any traveling type of lodging The breakfast was of a very high quality using high quality ingredients, don't miss out on the homemade marmalade. Hope to visit again some day as one night wasn't enough. Great hospitality, very welcoming and excellent value for money.
Good luck Julienne and Peter

Stayed here for only one night which wasn't long enough. Warm friendly welcoming establishment. Clean, modern and tastefully decorated rooms. Julienne was a great host and her breakfast was the best! Hope to visit again one day.

5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 27, 2013

We stayed at the Dorchester Guest House for 4 nights from the 18th-22nd March and I can honestly say it is one of the nicest guest houses with the most welcoming hospitality from Julienne and Peter we have encountered throughout the UK yet.
Set on the main road in to Ilfracombe, we found it very easily to find and parking outside was a bonus too. We were shown to our room (room 5) and we were very impressed from the start. The whole guest house is very nicely decorated, very clean throughout and the little touches in our room went a long long way. The bed was very comfy, the bathroom spacious with a good shower. The hostess tray was wonderful with lots of tea, coffee and biscuits, there is FRESH milk in the fridge and a selection of beverages and snacks at a very good price. Being smokers, we were also nicely surprised that we could use the garden via a door along one of the hall ways, we have never encountered that and thought it was very thoughtful. Breakfast was just the best !! we liked the fact that you ordered your cooked choice of food the night before. I am sure and really like the fact that this would make it easier for the owners, but also cuts down on waste and makes for a really good service. There is also a choice of cereal, yogurts and fruits and plenty of orange juice, tea and coffee - We were always asked if we would like more toast but we were so full up and ready for the day ahead.

Ilfracombe itself is a lovely place and throughout our week we met some of the most welcoming people. We like a pub in the evening on holiday and we were welcomed into every one, so much so every night we went on a mini pub crawl and could not possibly say which one we liked the best - The only one we were advised would not be our sort of place is Buddy's Sports Bar - Apparently for the very young. But to metion a few - George and Dragon, The Boat House, Ship & PIlot, The Ilfracombe arms, The Wellington Arms - All very nice.

We had some lovely food too all week, from Kings Fish and Chips, Great home cooked food in
the George and Dragon, and I mean home cooked food, it was not frozen and then zapped, I had a lovely steak, one of the best I have had in a long time. The best meal by far though (aside from the breakfasts) was the Italian Giovanni & Luca, it is on the front up towards the Harbour side of town - The service and food was excellent and for a very reasonable price too.

Not only is the Dorchester a great Guest House, it is in a great location for exploring Ilfracombe and the surrounding areas. We went along the coast both north and south, into Exmoor and had some lovely days out.

We like to explore different parts of the UK every year and go to new places, I can honestly we will be back in the near future, The Guest House, the town and North Devon gave us a wonderful week away.

Thank you Julienne and Peter - A little gem of a Guest House and we look forward to seeing you in the future.

Given I am blessed with many opportunities to travel and experience some of the finest hotels around the world, finding The Dorchester, is without any doubt was a pleasure.

Firstly, this is no ordinary Guest House, more of a promising boutique hotel. Privately owned and cared for a warm welcome waits you and to be honest the cleanliness of the rooms and facilities available are outstanding. Modern flat screen TV, tea and coffee making, mini bar stocked and reasonably priced.

The bathroom full of quality towels and gels is certainly well above the standard one would expect for the Guest House Brand.

Overall if your looking for some traditional hospitality, in a warm and welcoming environment then give the Dorchester a try as you will not be disappointed.

We stayed here totally on the off chance. They had a cancellation earlier in the day which meant they could fit us in and at a competitive price. With this in mind the room was probably not the premier room of the establishment but was absolutely spotless and appointed with extras such as a fridge, sofa and fresh milk to have with our cup of tea. DVDs were available to borrow for the evening and the room was quiet and comfortable. For the price the place was definitely at the top end of our expectations. Breakfast could be ordered the night before so you could get exactly what was wanted without any unnecessary wastage, the quality was also very good. However the highlight was the service which was friendly helpful and welcoming. It is walking distance to the town and the outdoor pursuits on offer in the area.

Room Tip: We got the last room and it did for us fine. I suspect early booking for one of the rooms with a vi...

We arrived this time with six year old and little dog in tow. Fab room on the top floor, garden view this time, warm and welcoming on a cold day. Superb visit once again and highly recommended. All rooms were fully booked but couldn't hear anyone else as the rooms are very quiet. Sculpture in the harbour car park is stunning. Kinder chocolate bar in the room was a lovely surprise for our daughter, thankyou.
