We booked this through Groupon then saw some of the negative reviews.
On arrival we were given a very warm welcome and showed to our room.
The room was small, although very clean.
The decor was fresh, but the ceiling was showing signs of potential roof problems.
Our room had a bath and plenty of hot water.
All of the staff were helpful, polite and friendly nothing seemed too much trouble.
Negatives: Room was cold.
Bedding still on blankets.
For the price this is a good place to stop.

We were given this as a christmas present via groupon.

Never have given bad feedback before but felt very strongly about this place. We usually make the most out of a bad A situation and have a laugh. Also you except being only a 2 star certain basic things, but damp, mould and not clean is not acceptable. Think these bad rooms are only given to groupon customers.

Couldn't find a parking space as the hotel has only 6⃣ parking spaces.

Arrived there late afternoon and booked In.

We had to climb 3 very narrow flights of stairs. Before we got to our room to.
We opened the door to be greeted by the awful smell of damp and mould. Once in the room it was freezing and the there was mould on the wall all around the bed head, shower room and even in the wardrobe.
The toilet had a small leak, the heater didn't work, and the carpet had a hole and looked dirty.
The bed only had 2 old blankets and a throw. The mattress was cover with plastic. During the night we were frozen and didn't sleep well everything felt so damp.

In the morning we complained about the room. We were offered another room for the which seemed was warmer and a bit cleaner.
We decided to leave and not even stay for that night.
When we told the receptionist about our room and that we were leaving early, he seemed not to care or Apologetic.

Stayed 2 nights on a Groupon deal. Good welcome from Wendy when we arrived. Very helpful as my husband is disabled. Our room was near the lift. Room on the small side but OK as we were only there for 2 nights.Very clean & a very comfortable bed. A few things were a bit "tired" but nothing we would complain about.
Had a meal there the first night. Not much choice but as there was a coach party in not really surprised. Meal nicely cooked though.
Breakfast good.

Hotel clean, food very good and staff friendly with nothing too much trouble. The radiator in our bathroom wasn't working but upon reporting this is was on in no time. We had a very difficult journey from Kent and on arrival a welcome cup of tea was waiting for us, much appreciated. Our room was very comfortable, one negative the bathroom is in need of an update and needs renewing but that said it was perfectly useable. The entertainment in the hotel was better than most. If we came to Ilfracombe again we would certainly return to the Grosvenor.

Room Tip: If you want a room with a shower, or a bath instead, you need to request this as some rooms have eit...

Basic 2* family run Hotel that could not do enough for you. CLEAN accommodation, EXCELLENT food, From the moment I walked through the door I felt as if I was part of the family, nothing was too much trouble, It was a Christmas stay where Santa called Christmas morning and every resident received a present. The Grande Buffet was spectacular and beautifully presented. Extra bedding was provided when requested by elderly residents. Even though it was the Christmas period the rooms were cleaned and spotless when I arrived and throughout my stay. Entertainment was provided all evenings with a charity raffle and a fancy dress which was a huge success. There is a lift to all floors. This is an old fashioned hotel with old fashioned value family service. I highly recommend it!! Well done to Wendy, Rayner and family xx

I immediately felt very Welcome in this Hotel. We go on a lot of these Coach Tours as they are just long enough for me! The best thing was - the staff were enthusiastic, caring and made you feel most welcome. Nothing was too much trouble! We had a bath in our room on the top floor (3) and I am disabled. We were with a group so I did not book it. So I went to see the man on reception. He carefully studied what to do then gave me a key to an empty room with a walk in shower. The water was hot, the heating was good and the bathrooms were lovely! Everything was very clean & the beds were warm and comfortable.
On the Wednesday night we had a buffet second to none with food that made your mouth water - you wanted to try everything - it looked so good! Delicious salads, meats, fruits and desserts amazingly arranged to look lovely on the tables. The food was plentiful and delicious. There was a raffle, a cake competition and a Fancy Hat Contest! The entertainment was good and a lot of people enjoyed the dancing - I can't dance, being disabled, but the accompanying music made us have a great time! The kitchen staff gave us everything we asked for and enough tea & coffee - also in our rooms. Very attentive and efficient!
There was ample cupboards and drawers and chairs. We were on the top floor so had no problems with noise or anything else for that matter! Never had to wait long for the lift.
One very small addition that would make it even better would be some sauces for the table - brown sauce and tomato (although we had plenty of fresh tomatoes) or some mayonnaise.
This is a great hotel in a very good location with staff who wish to help and make you have a good break. Well Done!

Room Tip: The very top rooms are more quiet and restful and they are warm & comfy enough!
