We got this through groupon and we're so pleased we didn't pay the full asking price of £42.50 per person b&b. it's Fawlty towers meets Phoenix nights!!! To say the hotel is dated is being kind I think it was last decorated in the 70's the early 70's that is. We woke up Saturday morning freezing, went for breakfast and the opening question from the other diners was " was you cold last night?" I'd been to get something from the car and it was warmer outside at 8 am on a February morning!!! Then came the breakfast full English it said on the menu 1 sausage I bacon 1 egg cold beans and 2 very small hollow potato wafles. I'm not saying the sausage was cheap but I would have liked some horse meat in it then at least it would have had some meat in it my wife couldn't eat hers. Needless to say we didn't go down for breakfast Sunday we ate out on our way home. The "entertainment " was something else again straight from the 70's.
on the positive the staff are friendly and helpful. It's a shame, there is so much potential it must be a viscious circle to improve they need to spend money, yet to spend money they need customers and if they don't improve the customers will stay away, and I don't blame them one little bit.

This hotel is very difficult to rate as it has good points and not so good points , first the good points the staff are very friendly and helpfull, the food is good and the decor ( downstairs ) is clean , warm , and very welcoming , with a bar -nice fuction room for parties weddingds etc. The rooms ustairs however are in need of complete refubishment we had a double room which was a let down compared to the downstairs , very old and dated....such a let down..

Bought a Groupon deal which gave my Girlfriend and I a two night break at this hotel. What a waste of Money! Whilst we were there, on the first night most of the hotel was full of guests to a 50th Birthday party, which was loud all night long. Upon arrival, the hotel restaraunt was exclusively reserved for the party. It was politley suggested we try the Oriental Buffet across the road if we were hungry (Don't bother by the way). The second night accommodated a wedding reception which again was loud until the early hours. Whilst this wasn't necessarily a deal breaker, it would have been nice when we phoned to book our reservation that someone told us about the events that were to take place during our stay as we felt like awkward intruders each time we walked through the hotel and around the bride and groom to get to the lift. In terms of the actual building and accommodation, to say it needs a little TLC is an under statement. The Hotel could have been considered luxury back in the 1960's and it probably hasn't been updated since. When the Customer information booklet in each room brags of a colour TV with popular channels such as BBC and ITV, you feel like you've booked a trip in a time machine. The room was clean, however the decor was very dated, the paint was peeling off of the walls and the bathroom left a lot to be desired. The hot water tap worked when it felt like it and the Shower was either Boiling hot or freezing cold. On the second night, the fire alarm went off around 11:30 at night. We quickly got dressed and made our way to reception, when we noticed a rather large amount of water coming through the ceiling during the rain. When we got to reception, the wedding was still in full swing and the hotel staff were completely stumped as to why the alarm had gone off, but decided everything was ok. We told them about the leak and showed them where it was. We were told "Oh I know it sounds strange, but it depends on which direction the wind is blowing" We were told, seemingly not worried as to how close the water was to the light switch.

All in all it was a disappointing stay. Whilst the Bed was comfortable and the room warm, the staff didn't seem to care much about the customers and the Hotel is in dire need of updating. Breakfast is served for an hour and a half in the morning and again, leaves little to be desired.

Would only recommend this hotel for elderly on bus tours. Pretty tired and in need of refurbishment. They cater for elderly as far as food and entertainment goes. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

Room Tip: Make sure you ask for a room with a shower as ours only had a bath-they did give us a key to an empt...

We had our Wedding Breakfast and evening reception at this hotel on 10th March 2012.

We also stayed in the hotel for that evening and many of our family members also stayed for one or two nights.

I can honestly say that I do not have a bad word to say about this hotel, and my family thoroughly enjoyed their stay.

The staff are polite and extremely hard working. Every little request I had for the seating arrangements, decorations, drinks for the bar, evening meal the night before etc EVERYTHING was carried out to the highest possible standard. Wendy, Raynor and all of the staff truly made my day special and memorable – Thank you all so much.

The hotel is decorated to a high standard.

Food is beautiful (We had a meal on the Friday evening, sit down meal on the Saturday afternoon, an amazing buffet on the Saturday evening and a lovely breakfast on the Sunday). Our family has also had many Sunday lunches there since.

On the Sunday evening that weekend, we went into the hotel to play a quiz and bingo as some of my family were still staying there. We had a great time, and spoke to several of the other guests staying at the time – everyone was having a nice time and had great things to say about their stay.

Our room was clean, nicely decorated and very comfortable & the bathroom was spotlessly clean.

Have just returned from a holiday at the Grosvenor. A family run business and they sure know how to make their guests feel welcome. The rooms were cleaned every day. The food was excellent and so much of it. They put on entertainment for us every afternoon as well as in the evenings. We were given mulled wine on 'Christmas Eve' and sherry before dinner on 'Christmas day'. When Father Christmas visited, he gave us all, adults included presents. The buffet on Christmas Eve had to be seen to be believed. I would certainly recommend this hotel to anyone. It was a great surprise to us as we had read some of the negative recviews and arrived expecting the opposite to what we got. Many, many thanks to you all and a Happy Christmas 2012. Pat Eyres
