We stayed here for 3 nights in August 2011 with our 2 year old son. Helen is a lovely host and made us feel very welcome. The hotel is a refurbished Victorian property, lots of character but with a modern boutique style. Our bedroom was large, clean and well laid out - there was loads of room for the 3 of us (including our travel cot) and the bathroom had both a large bath and a separate shower. Bed was king sized and very comfortable - we all slept like logs as the house is set back from the road, which is quiet anyway.
Breakfast's here are fantastic. Yoghurt's, cereals, tea, coffee are all top quality and the cooked options are also excellent - perfect poached eggs, scrambled eggs and smoked salmon, full English.
Having visited Ilfracombe on childhood holidays it's good to return and see properties like Westwood being a part of the modernisation of the holiday industry in the town. It's easily walkable into town where there are plenty of restaurants - everybody knows about Damien Hirst's (which is good) but there are plenty of others of all types.
The Tunnels Beaches are very close to the hotel (modernised, with new cafe/restaurant and childrens play centre) and the North Devon coastal path is also close to the hotel.
In summary - lovely hotel, excellent host, loads to do. We hope to return and for longer next time.

Room Tip: All rooms seem very good.

Have just returned home from a wedding in Ilfracombe where we luckily decided to stay in the Westwood.

Helen, the owner, was extremely welcoming and made sure we had all we needed for a comfortable stay. As far as B&Bs go this is by far the best we have stayed in. In fact it beats most of the 5 star hotels we have stayed in.

We will definitely be staying here again.

We had a great room,. with a king size bed, a lounge chair, a double ended bath. Luckily the house is not in the center of the town, but in a quiet area in a beautiful house. The drive way is a bit steep but when you don't want to drive it: just leave your car on the street, there is plenty of free parking space there. The decoration is very well done using vintage design. The hostess is very friendly and gave us good tips on places to eat.

We were booked into the Westwood when the ceiling in our bathroom at the Elmfield fell through and I didn't believe that a B&B could match up to a boutique hotel. How wrong i was! The Westwood is a gem, Beautifully decorated, with amazing art and carefully chosen furniture. We had a Corbusier chaise and a Barcelona chair in our room, from which we could overlook the whole town through a massive bay window. The bed was a dream, it felt like we were floating off to sleep and the bathroom was enormous, topped off with a roll-top bath. Helen kindly booked La Gendarmerie which was an easy 15 minute walk away and very lovely food. The next morning we still demolished a lovely breakfast as we watched horizontal rain and gale force 7 winds zip past the windows. We had been booked on the MS Oldenburg to Lundy, but became evacuees for the second time this weekend. Helen came to the rescue once again, lending us her lovely labs, Oswald and Charlie to walk on the cliff tops. We're definitely looking forward to coming back again soon.

Room Tip: Room one is a wonderful size with amazing views

Staying here is a truly delightful experience. Helen’s friendly welcome (and pot of tea!) makes you feel at home straight away.

The rooms have a unique contemporary elegance and every effort is made to make them as comfortable as possible. The real difference is in the small details, whether it’s the L’Occitane toiletries, cafetiere coffee or DVD player in the rooms.

The delicious cooked-to-order breakfasts, served in the stylish dining room, will set you up perfectly for the day. And the Westwood is perfectly located for whatever you want to do in and around Ilfracombe. An added bonus is the easy access to the coastal path behind the guest house: within a matter of minutes you’ll discover glorious sea views.

What makes the Westwood so special is Helen’s wonderful hospitality. Nothing is too much trouble and she happily recommends things to do that I’m sure you won’t find in the guidebooks.

I tried to think of something negative to say about our stay. The only thing I could come up with was that we didn’t stay an extra day. Definitely worth a return visit.

I booked a night away as a surprise for my boyfriend. Helen was absolutely great -she was welcoming yet discrete, allowing us to have time to ourselves but always available to make suggestions. She has thought of everything -and it shows. The fluffy white towels and white robes made this B&B feel like a cosy luxury hotel: the best of all worlds! We stayed in Room One as it had been recommended and it did not disappoint. We will be back! Many thanks Helen!
