Friendly helpful hosts - thoughtfully planned - breakfast was great - very good bacon & veggie sausages - then lots of steps up to our top floor room to work off all that food, quiet and relaxing, we would happily stay here again.

Having spent 6 previous nights at B&B 4* accommodation in both Padstow and Penzance we were both a little disappointed with our choice at booking the Collingdale to be honest…..

The location just above the harbour of Ilfracombe is lovely and the view from the room across the harbour was nice too. There is limited free ‘on the road’ parking at the front and there is a car park at the rear which costs £3.10 per day between 10am and 9pm each day if you cant get a place on the road outside.

On arrival first impressions we not great as the room we had picked and booked from the website we were told had been changed as they had to re-jig things. We were given a room on the top floor instead which was 4 flights up!! Needed to be pretty fit getting up and down each day and eve!

The room was very clean but pretty small with a sloping roof which my husband struggled with as he is 6ft4. The shower room/en suite was tiny and shower flow extremely weak and shower very dated (the flow button kept falling off when you turned it!). We were also only provided with two bath towels on our last day which was a pain when you need hand towels too or a towel to dry your hair on & way to far down to go to ask for some (maybe internal phones for the top two floors would be an idea?!?!).

Breakfast was okay again limited compared to what we had experienced previously. Only a small jug of milk on each table which by the time you had used it for your tea/coffee was not enough for cereal too. No baked beans with the cooked breakfast which can be a negative for some especially for the youngsters! Owner appeared stressed when a lot of the guests had arrived at the same time for breakfast and they also ran out of basic things on the menu too.

On the whole my husband and I got the distinct impression that the owners although very friendly indeed did not enjoy the lifestyle they had chosen in running a hotel/B&B at all.

Stayed 1 night on a rare business trip to Ilfracombe.
Bookked The Collingdale Hotel through Late Rooms with a minimum of fuss and a lot of efficiency.
This is a very comfortable privately run independent which I found to be very good indeed.
The room was spacious with all amenities necessary and was very peaceful, leading to an excellent rest after a very long day travelling from North Yorkshire.
The hotel is spotlessly clean and has an air of elegance from days gone by.
Breakfast was magnificent and the proprieters courteous and particularly friendly.
The thatched pub up the road (left) has great history (and beer).
The harbour is may be half a mile but well worth the walk.
Views of Lundy and the ocean are superb.
Excellent all round.

Me and my partner stayed at the collingdale for five nights in July. I was very pleased with my choice of accomadation, the guest house is located up a hill a few minutes walk away from ilfracombe harbour and being up a hill you get excellent views out to sea from the room.
Sharon and Daryl are both lovely people who made us feel very welcome and had good knowledge of things to do and places to eat in the local area. There is a lovely homely lounge and bar area you can sit in to relax or play a few board games which we did! The room we stayed in was excellent, very clean nicely decorated and the bed was extremly comfy.I want to go back soon and try a different room. Very sad to leave. I would recommend to everyone that you stay here! Book today!x

Sharon was very friendly and obviously proud of their business and the local area. You may get cheaper elsewhere, but you'd soon realise why - good VFM.
