We visited Ilfracombe and stayed in rocky cove. We hav stayed there twice previously in room 4. It is a family room with a big bath and double size shower. The room is clean and tidy with tea/coffee and water. There is a good selection for breakfast-juice,fruit, cereals, croissants, full English, plenty of tea and coffee and toast. They are very accommodating if you would like something else tho. John and Polly are both friendly and knowledgeable re the area and places to visit and eat etc.
There is a bus stop right outside if you wish to explore the area. Parking can be an issue but John will advise you.
We always enjoy our stay here and it is in an ideal spot for restaurants and close to the harbour.
We will be back!

We arrived on a rainy, cold night in Ilfracombe and ended up in a truly horrid hotel. Most good restaurants were booked but we chanced upon Rocky Cove. We really lucked out. Gorgeous little place, great atmosphere, perfect ambience and music. Our waitress was fun, helpful, informative (she tried to find us a new hotel, as did the chef!). The starters of garlic sardines and prawn tempura were perfection, and the mains a work of art both visually and orally - an awesome piece of pork belly on a bed of noodles and chicken cooked to perfection stuffed with goats cheese, wrapped in pancetta for me. It was my wife's birthday and we were treated to generous servings of bubbly too. A real hidden gem. Go!

Visiting the area on holiday and celebrating our 13th anniversary my wife and our two young children walked past and from the outside the venue looked just what we were looking for. The Monday madness menu also looked good. As there was no tables inside at that time we decided to book for a bit later on. On our return we were seated straight away. The waitress was friendly but it seemed we had to wait a long time for our drinks order to be taken and then even longer for our food order.
Once our food order had been taken there then came another wait, at this point I noticed a family that was being seated on our earlier visit who were still waiting for their food!( about an hour). May be it was a case of cooking one table at a time!!
The two waitresses seemed very busy and well trained in saying "sorry for the long wait" as this is all I heard from all tables of the restaurant.
Anyway when our food finally arrived our steaks were Rare we had asked for med/well done, they were returned to the kitchen but returned to our table just the same,my sons meatballs were uncooked and my younger son had his dinner served on a plastic picnic plate!!! I didn't expect a restaurant that looks good to serve food on a cold picnic plate when people are out for a special dinner.

So disappointed should had be better and could be great.

Nice fish wallpaper!

Whilst on a visit strolled by and spoke with the chef(owner) asked if he could do a good crab salad, so that was the challenge, booked a table (just as well we did). My husband had a steak with amazing fresh veg. I had the best crab salad ever, even had some extra crab. The staff were very friendly and attentive. We thought that they had made a mistake with the bill it was such good value. The fish meat and veg. are all sourced daily locally, and the highly qualified chef has a true passion for quality food

We had two Huge whole plaice with veg, potatoes and a bottle of wine for £30!
The wine was nothing special but the fish were enormous and freshly caught.
More of a bistro than a full blown restaurant but freshly prepared food and friendly service at sensible prices. Would definately go again.
