What a clean place - not a bit of dust anywhere and there's plenty of places for it to be. Lovely surroundings with many bits of memorabilia. Swords, jugs, bugle, and many more things made from brass. Many other bits of interest too. Lovely atmosphere and very pleasant staff. A la carte menu as well as everyday snacks. Surprised when food came as beautifully presented and the veg - well it was best I've had in a restaurant for ages. Fresh and cooked to absolute perfection. Sensible size teapot too - managed almost 3 cups. Well worth a visit as very relaxing and a nice break from the crowds visiting Ilfracombe - a lovely place.

We ate there last night and the food, service and value was absolutely lovely. The staff were really helpful and happy to please and made us feel very welcome. The menu was great and it's the sort of place I would like to keep going back to and work my way through the menu.

We left the kids in there to choose and eat what they wanted. Both said the food was very good and very well priced. Enjoyable

On the last night of our touring holiday in Cornwall and Devon we decided to try the Smugglers in Ilfracombe.
We were met with a freindly, warm welcombe, seated in a booth for four, giving us plenty of room. The surroundings and decor was really nice.
We were given plenty of time decide on our choice, I had the Whitebait, my wife had Prawn Cocktail, both were superb, I then had Rainbow Trout and my wife Spa Bol, again a superb choice, well presented and good sized portions, we then had sweets again really nice.
What a good choice for our last evening.
Food hot, portions large and well presented, would reccomend to anyone

Judging from the cosy decor and atmosphere of the restaurant, you would expect quality, home-cooked food. But we were sorely disappointed by our dishes. There is an emphasis on seafood on the menu but my battered cod was tiny and looked more like something you would buy from Aldi and cook in the oven, while the fish platter was similarly artificial, with the breaded salmon in particular tasting dry and cheap. Shame it cost £12! We would have been better off going to a chippy a few doors down. The restaurant itself is lovely and the staff are friendly but the food really lets it down.
