Have to start off by saying the house is amazing and being fairly sympathetically restored by the owners. It is a work in progress but any work that was going on was totally unobtrusive. I must also say that the professional photos of the property give the impression that it is very secluded, and while it does stand alone in very nice gardens it is actually completely surrounded by other buildings. The large garden does provide a car park though. A real God send in most of Ilfracombe.

The room (No 1) was on the ground floor with a view of the garden and the sea. It was large and clean, but missing a few essentials. There were no cups with the tea and coffee facilities, and no waste bin though these were both provided by the second day, There was only one bedside lamp, and only one proper bedside cabinet. There was a very small table on the other side that was obviously from a nest of tables. The small TV appeared to be standing on another table from the same set. The bathroom was a little small, but this was no doubt due to the architecture of the house. The fittings were new and the room was nicely decorated, A major fault though was the shower cubicle had a smooth floor and obviously became slippery. This coupled with the step required to get in and out meant the chance of slipping over was considerable. Oddly there was nowhere in the shower to put soap shower gel which meant either putting it on the floor or holding onto it. Very inconvenient, particularly if you opted to put it on the floor which would mean bending over on the smooth wet floor.
An unusual surprise was the provision of a lounge, when so many B&Bs opt to maximise bedroom space this was most welcome.
Breakfast was substantial with a good choice, and served in a very pleasant dining room.
All in all, we thought it was good value for money and provided a nice base for a weekend.

I had an excellent stay at Laston Hotel in November. Greg and Abby were fantastic hosts, giving me top tips on where to visit and eat. They were very welcoming and giving relaxed and family feel to the stay. The room had been recently redecorated, was clean and comfortable with great views of the sea. I will definitely recommned Laston Hotel for a short or long stay..

We read the other reviews and thought this place sounds great.
On the plus side lovely detached house with great views and peaceful location.

But road to the house is full of potholes and unlite.
Car park is good size but that too is unlaid and full of potholes.
Breakfast is the latest and shortest time span we have ever had it 8.30-9.30. ( I know people have families etc who are running it, but when you are running a business, it is all about serving the customer)
As previous customer said Room 3 is not as good as the others. The attached bathroom is very small with no heating.
Building works are going on and it is noisy if you want to spend some time in your room during the day.

Laston House is a beautiful old building and in a good location. Very comfortable room and bathroom and a very good breakfast. We appreciated the family feel of Laston House. Although restoration work is ongoing outside it is not intrusive. Car parking is available which is a must in Ilfracombe.

Room Tip: Ground floor rooms for easy access. Easy parking at the hotel which is a must in Ilfracombe.

My wife and I have stayed here on several occasions, usually arriving in the Spring and Autumn and have found the owners to be welcoming and charming. Rooms are comfortable, breakfast good and nothing is too much trouble. We would certainly recommend.
