On holiday here. Google established there were 3 indian restaurants in Ilfracombe. On the recommendation of a local we chose Asian Spice.
We booked for 830 and when we arrived we were greeted by a friendly member of staff who showed us to our table and offered to get us our drinks while we purused the menu.
It all went down hill from there!
There were 3 members of staff milling around, but just the 1 who seemed to be running around doing everything from taking orders, answering the phone, serving drinks etc.
The service was snail slow - we had to ask for our order to be taken.
Ordered starters & mains including naan breads.
As our mains were about to be brought we were told by a now embarrassed member of staff that the clay ovens werent working so could we chose something else other than naan bread!!!
The mains themselves - mine was a balti - was tasteless & bland. The chicken in it was cut into same size strands - like you get in freezer packs in Iceland. I say no more

If this is the best they have then we wont bother in future!

The food was very tasty and the evening meal was relaxed and unhurried. I love ordering dishes that I've never heard of but having been caught out at other Asian restaurants recently I ordered my dish and asked for an recommendations for what I should order with it (rice / bread / side dishes etc.) but didn't feel as though I was getting informed recommendations so ended up ordering a few things just in case.
It took quite a while to get the dishes but the poppadums and drinks kept us going. Once the dishes were served the food was tasty and went down nicely. Follow up service was slow and it seemed like an eternity before our coffees were served - in fact 3 waiters asked if we wished to order coffees. The fact that the restaurant wasn't overly patronised meant that we had an enjoyable unhurried meal. Top marks for that but I think that a little extra understanding of teh menu and better recommendations would make this place even better.

We were staying in Combe Martin and found a flyer for this restaurant in the reception area so decided to drive into Ilfracombe and giver it a go. The restaurant is opposite Lidl and quite easy to find with parking nearby. We went on a Tuesday, which was Banquet Night, and ordered items from the extensive and interesting menu which neither of us had tried before. The food was served in good time (although there were only 2 other couples in the place the take-away service seemed very busy) and was hot and very tasty. The service, however, was not wonderful and although we'd only had 1 banquet meal and one drink each they billed us for 2 drinks we didn't have. The restaurant, in the main, was very clean but the doors into the ladies toilet and out to the street were grubby around the area where people placed their hands to push open. The restaurant was, sadly, lacking in atmosphere which could have been down to the small number of customers but we'd probably eat there again if ever we were in the area as the food was delicious.

Seemed to be surprisingly few Indians in Ilfracombe, but found this one just out of the centre. Nothing fancy but the food was nice, prices fair and service reasonable.

Husband went by himself as I was working in Ilfracombe one night at beginning of September. The food was brilliant, the staff helpful and polite, the restaurant was spotless. The service was great and it was a bonus to find this lovely restaurant in the centre of Ilfracombe. Talking about Ilfracombe - it has certainly come up in the world in recent years. The harbour area with the Damien Hirst's statue 'Verity' must be a huge draw and the theatre complex is nice and modern. Everything is clean and the walks by the coast are spectacular. Highly recommend.
