We found this place on a walk from ilfracombe, went in and received a very warm welcome. We didn't eat there that day but returned the following evening and were the only people in there apart from the staff. They were very friendly and the food although not spectacular was very tasty and reasonably priced. Our dog was allowed in too much to his delight and made friends with the resident 3 legged Lucy dog.

Walked here from Ilfracombe, and had a lovely lunch. Great potato and leek soup! Everybody enjoyed their food, portion sizes were good, and beer was very tasty. Excellent value!

This is a proper old, English pub. Fantastic beer garden with table-tennis table. Good choice of beers and ales and excellent nut selection. Staff were very friendly and the location/village is just superb. Highly recommended, especially after a long walk along the cliffs from Ilfracombe.

We were staying in Lee on Holiday so thought we should try the local.
We were 7 adults and 2 children and had booked a table.
The feel of the place is really quaint and full of character which we loved.
The young chap behind the bar was friendly and helpful with his drinks knowledge but sadly the food was like buying a lottery ticket, some were winners and some losers.
I had ordered the trout as my main but was told there was none left, no problem and I reordered the steak and ale pie. Sadly, and after a wait of maybe half an hour, I was told there was no pie either. I wasn't too bothered and ordered the steak and asked it to be cooked rare.
We waited a good while longer and finally the meals came out.
My steak was at one end cooked medium to well and at the other nicely rare. It didn't worry me enough to send it back as it did taste good.
Unfortunately as others began to eat it was clear that 5 of the 9 meals were up to the expected standard but the other 4 were very short of the mark.
The chicken and leek pie had next to no chicken in it but loads of leek, the beef stroganoff was dry and flavourless and the accompanying red cabbage was just short of cold, making it almost in edible.
To address the balance, the sausages and mash was excellent, three big Cumberland sausages and loads of mash. Also the ham,egg and chips was good and plenty of it.
They also went out of there way to cook garlic bread and chicken kiev( not on the menu) for one of the children.
The service was tardy and totally disorganised, we were never asked if we would like starters or puddings and when it came to the bill, this didn't change.
We had to ask for the bill twice and when we went to the bar on the second occasion we were asked how many were in our group and who had had what to eat.
Bizarrely, the bill started at £135 ish but changed to £110 ish after we had told him what we had eaten! Strange!
Suffice to say we will not eat here again this week which is a huge shame as we will now need to travel in 2 cars to find somewhere else to eat.

Things are getting better and the food has definitely improved shame the bar is squeezed full of tables maybe a small awning or Marquet outside would be better good value for food and great selection of ale and wine.
