I don't know what it is with this place but it's nuts. I hope the owner of this restaurant reads this and knows what his/her staff are doing to their profits.
There are a lot of restaurants in Ilfracombe, I'd say avoid this one unless you want a laugh, it's kind of like Faulty Towers in its ineptitude, do not expect any kind of customer service or politeness.
It's staffed by two young girls and a guy; one girl (the dark haired one) was slightly better than the clueless rude blonde. No smiles, very rude and abrupt, ignored customers waiting to be seated - not even a 'I'll be with you in a mo', they also turned a lot of people away, I guess maybe 5 - 6 groups while we where there, seemingly because they had no idea what they were doing - weren't cleaning tables, couldn't judge when diners would be finished to free up tables for potential customers and just didn't seem to give a toss to be honest.
They had a special offer on pizzas between 6 and 7 (buy 2 for £15), we got there at 6.30. We had to waited half an hour to be served (bearing in mind this place is very small), at one minute to 7 the blonde girl came over and said do you know what you want? Oh by the way the offer on the pizzas has ended now. We explained that we'd been there waiting for half an hour and should be entitled to the offer. The blonde girl shrugged and just stood there looking vacant, the dark haired girl came over to her rescue and the blonde explained what we'd said. Slightly mishearing what she'd said (and presuming that she though that we were complaining about having to wait half an hour - which we weren't) she screwed her face up and said something like 'half an hour, no they haven't'. The blonde girl explained again, this time she got it and said that we could have the 2 for £15, phew!
While we were there they turned numerous people away because they couldn't be bothered to clean the tables. We were about to leave (having waited a while for the blonde girl to work out our bill) and two couples came in. The guy ignored both couples for a while then acknowledged them. The first couple asked for a table for 2, he said we haven't got any (knowing that we were about to leave and that the table (seating 3) behind us was empty, just because it hadn't been cleaned. The couple looked over at the empty table and said what about that one? The guy said oh that one's for 3 and it hasn't been cleaned, paused for a while then said I can clean it but it'll be about 10 minutes. He then spoke to the next couple, again he told them that there were no tables, then said that he could seat them in another room which he went off to do leaving the first couples standing there waiting.
There's a sign in the window that says open at 6pm except when busy open at 7pm - er, this kind of sums the place up - busy, you think they'd open early to make more money, especially considering they close at 9pm, hmm so I guess they'd probably serve between 7-10 tables in an evening before closing given their speed and eagerness to turn people away.
There quite a few other things that happened, you know those things where you just have to be there and think 'really, that ain't the way to do it'. The food was average, pizzas were hard, crispy and dry around the edge, mine was supposed to have spiced chicken on it, it had chicken on it alright but it wasn't spiced.
