Not really sure how many but the hotel is on so many levels and there were steps everywhere. I was carrying a bottle of champagne in the ice bucket with a glass half full - we were celebrating our 63rd Wedding Anniversary) when I missed the last step going down to get the lift. Sprawled on the floor (I didn't spill a drop!) I was immediately attended to by caring, able staff who ensured I was OK.
All the staff, all the time, were dedicated to serve all their guests.
The food was good and always HOT (hotter than all other 8 or so Shearings Hotels we have now visited) and the chef's 'specials' well worth asking for.
The standard plus 'room with a view' was well worth the little extra for recent redecorating and refurbishment.
Trips were well planned and organised with two drivers living locally who knew the area inside/out.
We had a very enjoyable holiday.

Room Tip: Ask for Standard plus room with a view.

We booked a short break with Shearings and arrived at the Dilkhusa on Saturday. The hotel is very central for the harbour, tunnels and shopping with a local bus stop right outside the hotel.
I have a wheat intolerance which proved no problem at this hotel.I informed reception just after arriving and they sorted an evening meal with no trouble. The next morning I met with the chef and he went through the whole weeks menu and was able to accommodate my problem with ease. The meals were all varied and caused me no stomach problems at all. When I went into the dining room for each meal the waiter/waitresses were all aware of my diet and never once made a mistake with my meals even though we sometimes had a different waiter/waitress. I would thoroughly recommend this hotel. The rooms were a little dated but the food was exceptional and all the staff were most helpful. We had a thoroughly enjoyable holiday mainly due to the exceptional service we were given at this hotel. Well done to all the staff.

Just returned from an 8 day break with Shearings to Ilfracombe. We had a very comfortable journey with our driver Nigel and it was so well-organised from joining our feeder coach, transferring to our main coach at Stretton services to arriving at the Dikhusa hotel. We were greeted at Reception by pleasant Receptionists and our cases were brought to our rooms by the Hotel staff - we had not seen our luggage since it was taken off us at the feeder coach, such good service. Our room was on the 3rd floor and was quite spacious, with a newly decorated bathroom. It overlooked the back of the hotel but was kept spotlessly clean and there was always plenty of tea, coffee, milk replenished daily, so different from a lot of hotels where only a couple of sachets are provided. We were allocated seats in the Restaurant for the week and we were lucky to be seated in the window and looked after so well by our Spanish waiter Raul. The breakfast was lovely with a choice of cereals or porridge with honey, full cooked breakfast of eggs on toast and pots of tea and coffee. Good choice in the Restaurant for evening meal, also the Chef's signature dish. I was looking forward to the Chicken curry and rice one evening, but unfortunately this proved to be so popular that it had 'run out' when I ordered and I had to choose a quorn cottage pie - not quite the same as a curry! The roast beef dinner and beef casserole were delicious, the meat was so tender and served piping hot. The entertainment in the evening included a quiz and a small game of bingo, there was a separate bar and outside area to sit if not interested in the bingo. This was followed by a different singer each night playing some 60's music, which had people up dancing. We had 4 drinks vouchers each a night included in the holiday. We were so lucky with the weather during our week's stay and we enjoyed the firework display on the Saturday night we arrived. It was the end of the Victorian week and on the Sunday locals in their Victorian costumes were sharing their picnics in the park opposite the Hotel, whilst listening to a choir singing in the bandstand. The Hotel is situated in a very convenient position for a stroll to the harbour and we enjoyed an hour and a half boat ride round the Bay. We enjoyed the walks up up the hill to St. Nicholas church near the harbour with excellent views. Would recommend the Dikhusa hotel to anyone visiting Ilfracombe, we had a lovely week.

For a short summer break we travelled to Ilfracombe and stayed at the Dilkhusa Grand in what turned out to be the hottest days of the year so far.
Check-in was a simple process but it would have been nice to have all our details pre-printed on the check-in form since Shearings had all the information, and not have to re-enter all our address/phone/Email information again. Petty, ‘yes’, but after a long car journey a bit annoying.
We were allocated a room on the fourth floor and found that the tiny 4-person lift only went to the 3rd floor and it was stairs after that. Unfortunately the room was very hot and stuffy, though we were later given an electric fan that helped with the lacking ventilation.
The room itself was perfectly acceptable, nice and clean as was the bathroom.
However, one thing that was objectionable was that we had disposable plastic beakers and not drinking glasses in the room. There were cups for making tea/coffee in the room so why not glasses?
Throughout our stay we had a half-board option and we enjoyed being served in the restaurant by the ever-smiling Jeanette, a young Hungarian waitress. The food was always good with a full cooked breakfast and a nice variety at dinner times and it is safe to say that we enjoyed every meal especially as they were always served on HOT plates, something that other establishments fail on.
All in all we enjoyed our stay, the hotel was comfortable, the staff very friendly and helpful, and the food good. Another “plus” was the delightful park just opposite the hotel.

Room Tip: Avoid the fourth floor because the lift only goes to three
