Stayed in room 321, very happy with room as it had been refurbished. Our waiter Gabriel was on the ball and an excellent asset to your staff, as was Chris the wine waiter. We had a varied choice of food which we found to be good.
The evening entertainment was ok, Bingo and a quiz followed by cabaret .The addition of an upgrade when booking meant we had 4 free drinks each every day, well worth the £10. We also took the parking for £5 per day. All in all we had a good break . Thank you

We visited the Dilkhusa recently on a self-drive break. This had been booked by telephone at the end of March, using a special offer code, as we were unable to book online. We were under the impresssion that the Dilkhusa breaks are all "bay inclusive", but it wasn't explained to us that there are, in fact, two prices for each break - one "bay inclusive" and the other a standard break. We only found this out when we asked the receptionist how we obtain our drinks vouchers, and were told we had just a standard booking. Both female receptionists we saw during our stay were really pleasant and helpful. The male receptionist was somewhat offhand, but maybe he was having a bad day!

It was ten years ago that we last visited the Dilkhusa, and it would seem that the reception and lounge areas have now been redecorated and refitted. The dining room is very much in need of redecoration.

Our room was number 228, which is at the front of the hotel. It was comfortable had en suite facilities, but we found the water pressure of the shower was quite low. Towards the end of our break, we found black mould on the carpet under the long window, and rotting woodwork. We took pictures of this and showed them to a helpful receptionist, who assured us she would bring it to the attention of the manager.

The restaurant staff appeared very rushed, especially our waiter Gabriel who never seemed to stop. Maybe they were short-staffed. The menu was varied and there was no problem with the food. On the one occasion that we were served porridge that was only just warm, it was immediately changed.

We didn't go in to the entertainment, except on the first night when we took part in a quiz. However, we heard from other guests that the 50s and 60s cabaret acts were very good.

There is only one small lift in the hotel which goes only as far as the third floor. We would advise anyone with limited mobility to ask for a low floor when booking.

Since we last visited the hotel, it's possible to book a parking space in their small car park, at a charge of £5 a day. When we arrived and checked in, we were told by the receptionist to choose a parking space (the spaces are marked by "reserved" cones) then when we had parked, to go back and tell her which numbered space we had chosen.

The hotel is situated opposite gardens and the interesting museum, which is worth a visit. It's about ten minutes walk to the attractive harbour. Buses to Barnstaple, Coombe Martin and other local places stop directly outside the hotel. There is, however, quite a steep walk to the town. For those who enjoy walking, the area is ideal.

Room Tip: Explain when you book if you have a mobility problem, and ask for a a room on a lower floor.

Service was excellent, we were in room 221 refurbished everything brand spanking new. Entertainment ok. Bar staff excellent, Chris was outstanding, took our wine order in the bar and it was at our table when we arrived. I rang a few days before arriving due to booking last minute to ask for a lower ground front room and although they said there were none left they provided both on arrival, very pleased. The staff are very friendly and helpfull. I ran out of milk in our room so went to reception for replenishing only to find a charge of 30 pence. A four year old little girl on a nearby table asked for a banana at breakfast time and was told she couldnt have one because she'd had a yoghurt and wasn,t allowed both then they said she could have it because she hadn,t had a cooked breakfast, apparently the staff are given stricked instructions. The weather in
May was cold when we was there, although the hotel on the ground floor was warm the bedroom had no heat (radiator valve missing) and was very uncomfortable to sit in or have a lie down. It appears that Shearings are watching their pennies??? The waitress at our table worked very hard and was pleasant. I have been on holiday with Shearings on a number of occasions and had no problems but I will not use them again, sorry.

Room Tip: If your travelling with shearings ring before you go to ask for a room of your choice

Been to the Dilkhusa Grand Hotel (Shearings Holiday) with a friend for a week The Hotel is very large and on the level. There are two small sets on stairs to get to the restaurant both with chair lifts, there is a lift to the bedrooms but only goes to the third floor so if you are on the fourth floor you have to get out at the third floor and walk up the rest of the way.Our twin room had just been refurbished to a high standard, with new furniture, curtains etc. and had an en suite shower room, but looked out onto the wall of the next building. The window was the original sash window and was rather draughty & rattled in the wind, there was no lock on the en suite and the shower cubicle had a plasic hook to open it but had no handle of any type to shut the door once you were in it,These are just a few minor niggles. The food was very good ,decent portions, with plenty of choice with waitress service (mainly Eastern Europeans) who were very efficient and obliging. There was a small snooker table in the lounge, a small bar serving tea/coffee and snacks during the day a large ballroom where there was entertainment every evening consiting of bingo,a quiz and an entertainer.
Ilfracombe itself is a pretty town and the walk to the harbour was on the flat where you could view the grotesque Damian Hurst statue of Verity or you could go on a boat trip. The main shopping area was up a very very steep slope and not suitable for people with poor mobility. The seagulls were noisy but you got used to that.I could recommend this hotel we had a good holiday there.

Room Tip: Our room was No 224 on the third floor ,but didn't have a good outlook but the new furniture etc...
