went on a weekend trip with friends. hotel is very tired could do with a complete refurb.room was ok could of been cleaned to a better standard.food was bland and small portions.4 free drinks per person per day was a nice touch also a glass of wine with your evening meal.entertainment was rubbish.most guests are at retirement age but we enjoyed the banter.position of the hotel is ideal.

Just returned home after spending a very enjoyable weekend at this hotel. Arrived on the evening of Friday 1 June by car, they have a small carpark to the left of the building as you look at it which we had pre booked a space for. Had asked for a high floor, double front facing room and thats what we got. It was quite adequate for what we needed with tea and coffee making facilities, but dont know if we could have slept in the bed for longer than the 3 nights, it was the most uncomfortable bed we have ever slept in, every time you turned over you felt and heard the springs ping and we are not large in build so can't say it was because of our weight! The en-suite shower room was compact but adequate and very clean Jackie was very good at making sure everything was clean and tidy for us...thank you Jackie! The food was good nothing fancy but we didnt expect fancy it was tasty but perhaps could have done with being slightly bigger portions, we had the pate starter one evening and it was lovely but only two thin strips of toast which wasnt enough for the amount of pate they give you. A lovely bonus which we didnt know until we arrived was they give you a drinks card for 4 free drinks per day per person which can be, tea/coffee etc, soft or alcoholic plus you get a free glass of wine with your meal. So all in all a very reasonable place to stay with everything within in walking distance of the hotel.

Room Tip: room 302 had a nice view of the gardens and could even see the sea but the bed is sooooooooooo uncom...

Just returned from a 8 day Shearings holiday and all I can say is that it was great value for the money.
The hotel required decoration in parts but the staff and food made up for this.
All the staff were helpful and always had a smile on their faces.
Big thanks to Sara our waitress she was fantastic.
The entertainment was good and John kept everyone entertained - loved the quizzes but am sure John will be pleased the 'eggheads' (as he named our team) have returned home!!!!
The excursions were interesting with lots of information given by the drivers Mark and Mike.
Thank you Shearings for yet another relaxing enjoyable holiday - looking to book the next one.

My wife and I booked our first coach holiday with Shearings starting on 6th of May for six nights at the Dilkhusa Grand. We were impressed by the fact that after putting our cases on the coach in Wigan we did not have to touch them again until we arrived in our room at the hotel. We had a good journey there and the coach driver Mark made it interesting.Good sense of humour. Our first impression of the hotel outside was that it could do with a bit of a facelift.Better when we got inside.
Our room number 3 was very good ,extremely large,a double bed and two singles and still lots of room. The food was in the Dining room was quite good and the staff in there were excellent especially Lisa and Pat.
The evening entertainment was good, some better than others, and the compere made sure the evenings were fun .We found all the staff in the hotel to be pleasant and very helpfull. We enjoyed the trips out even though the weather was not the best, especially the one to Lynmouth.
Opposite the front of the hotel are some very nice gardens and the Landmark theatre which we enjoyed visiting. We will definatley have another coach holiday with Shearings as we enjoyrd ourselves very much

What a lovely review to read, it is great to read that first time coach goers are having such a fantastic time on a Shearing’s holiday and that the Dilkhusa Grand played a part in that . It’s so good to see that you enjoyed every aspect of your stay, from the Driver to the food, just a shame we can’t rely on the weather.
Your comments have been passed onto all the staff and we all look forward to seeing you again soon.

I booked a Shearings coach holiday, which included pick up from home, coach travel, 6 nightsDB&B, single room, 2 excursions, 4 free drinks per night+ glass of wine with meal, all for just over £300. Great value.
The Dilkhusa Grand is centraly located in a fairly flat area of Ilfracombe opposie gardens, museum. theatre, and tourist information. A 10 minute walk down the road leads past the "beach" to the harbour area with cafes, pubs and gift shops. The High Street is up a short steep hill. Outside the hotel is a bus stop to most places in the area.
The entrance and reception is bright and clean, as are the entertainment lounge and bar areas. The restaurant and aother lounge area are up a short flight of steps with chairlift for the disabled. The restaurant is bright and clean. The higher floors are served by an antiquated lift, which works well, Although all floors are a maze of corridors and fire doors.
The food is standard Shearing fair, edible but not gourmet ie. good pub grub. The entertainment is variable dependant on the outside acts who John the compare brings in.
My single room on the 3rd. floor was probably the smallest I have ever stayed in, but was cleaned daily by Jackie, had a decent shower(as requested), a comfortable bed, and a window which opened(needed because of hot weather during my stay). The decoration was OK ie. no damp or mouldy areas
The staff throughout the hotel were friendly and helpful in reception, bars, and restaurant, my waiter Jamie was very good.
This is not a 5 star hotel but a good mid range English seaside hotel and worth a visit.

Room Tip: Higher rooms are quieter away from entertainment lounge, but no external noise in sleepy Ilfracombe...

We went on a 5day break in March with Shearings, I asked for an up graded room to a front facing .I was told there was no upgrades. I telephoned the hotel and asked again, she said a request would be noted. The room we got was above the entertainment, facing the back, small nosy everytime someone in the above floors went to the loo or washed, showered or had a bath all waste came down side of our room. The worst was when someone left the shower on in one of the rooms for 6hours it was like water torture and reception did nothing at all about it.Music went on until 11.30p.m. the paper was coming of the walls and the carpet was threadbare, we are not used to this crummy hotels we always upgrade and I am disappointed this one does not. In the entertainment room it was difficult to see as the support post were everywhere. The dining room was lovely with beautiful views but the food was not good unless you loved chips. I do not! and told them so the first night, but every night it was chips nothing at all was done about my dislike on them no alternatives.Breakfast was good and the only thing I liked about this hotel. Its a shame as Ilfracombe is a lovely place but I wont be going again to this hotel that is for sure and I advise others to go elsewhere unless you are disabled as there are chair lifts to the dining room but the staff are unheldful and we did not enjoy this holiday

Room Tip: If you must go ask for a front garden facing I hope you are luckier than me you dod not want the bac...
