Stayed one night at this hotel, it's nothing more than an old boozer with shabby rooms. We overlooked a pub across the street which had very load smokers and drinkers outside till very late. We even had two young lads knocking at our door at 10.30pm looking for their sister, so what does that tell you?? The only good thing is it's location. Didn't fancy the breakfast so went to local cafe.

Room Tip: Get room looking out onto cove.

We had a customer’s young girl who went to toilet but the family could not find her so her panicking brother knocked on room’s doors without us knowing
Staff had no idea of this until you charged down the stairs flexing your mussels at kids half your size and wanting to beat up the kids and our staff alike.
We normally ban bullies for life from here and call the police immediately however we just assured you that we would put a guard on the base of the stairs to make sure you did not get disturbed again and did not have any reason to beat up our staff or little kids.
It was very unpleasant having you here for our staff and customers who were very scared to go up to their rooms just in case they were near your room and disturbed you.
We were all very pleased that you only stayed here for one night.

Arrived in ilfracombe friday night around 7:45pm due to m5 congestion at bristol, drove around ilfracombe for about an hour looking for accomadation and found the Royal Britannia Hotel near the harbour(ideal as i was sailing at 8am next morning).Asked at the bar if there were any vacancies and got a twin room for £59 for the night, parked the car in longstay for £3.10 which lasted until sunday morning. The room was clean, spacious with en-suite and tea, coffee making facilities, towels provided and flat screen t.v.After a quick freshen up went downstairs into the bar and ordered food and a pint, had a very nice surf+turf with a few beers.I didnt have breakfast priced at £5 as the restaraunt didnt open until 9am but the owner directed us to a cafe just round the corner open for 7:30am.In all Great place at very short notice with well priced food and Great rooms.

Me and my partner traveled really late that evening! And all we got was NO room at this inn??? But then we were guided to the Royal Britannia Hotel on the harbour it was nearly midnight? He had no rooms available but kindly rang round to sister hotels which we still got NO room here? Richard then told me to wait whilst he spoke to a guest who had the 3 bed apartment, he then returned to say that we could have one of the rooms at 20£ each AMAZING!!!!! He went out of his way to help us which goes a long way! The room was basic but clean and it suited us well, so thank you again Richard and wife and son, we will return and hope to see you in Bath at the guest house I work at!! Thank you again. Faye and Rob

We are a couple in our forties who wanted a short break on our own without our teenagers. Booked online last minute for 3 nights £147 for Thursday, Friday & Saturday in August 2012 in a room without a harbour view. Full English breakfast charged in addition was £5 each - excellent value. Unfamiliar with Ilfracombe before our visit. Very pleased to find Hotel right on harbour with terrace where breakfast/meals can be eaten. Our room very clean, recently decorated to high standard. Restricted width access to shower, but luckily I am only 16 stone now so I could squeeze through door - owner told me he was aware of this issue and that room was the last one requiring modification. Obviously, the whole building is in the process of being renovated there are some very attractive period features and when its finished it will be outstanding. We had a lovely time met owner as soon as we arrived and found all staff very friendly and helpful. Note for other travellers: Order your choice of breakfast from bar area as soon as you come down in the morning. Vegetarian option very good as well as full English. 24 hr parking is available in harbour car park for £3.10 or cheaper out of season. Lovely walks around Hotel, harbour and next to jetty for boat/fishing trips. We left the car parked for our whole stay. Numerous other pubs/restaurants/real ale. There are some better rooms than we stayed in with bay windows and harbour views, next time we stay we will pick one of those.

Room Tip: Ask for a harbour view.

Best location in Ilfracombe but that's about it. Despite claims of refurbishment on the website there were no signs in the public areas.Fortunately the weather was superb so we didn't need to sit inside in the dining room which was in a state. Expensive 2 nights Thurs/Fri at £158 room only - extra £20 for breakfasts - on terrace surrounded by beer drinkers. Breakfast menu was not all available. Never met anyone who was identified or introduced as Manager/Proprietor. General overall impression was dirty and neglected. If we had booked direct with the hotel we would have queried the rate but booked online and had to pay in advance.
Why didn't we take note of the other reviews?

Room Tip: King Room - No 2 - appeared to have been refurbished and decorated.

You or your friends may not like our hotel for whatever reason and we are sorry to hear that as we try so hard to make everyone happy however you cannot say the location is bad as anyone who has visited here knows that this is the Best Location in Ilfracombe and probably the best Sea view location in the UK
