An excellent dinner with well-chosen combinations of flavour. Good breakfast too. Attentive and friendly service.

A delightful location, overlooking the river & mature trees. Well thought-out rooms & a pleasant upstairs sitting room.

We enjoyed a wonderful meal at The Cross - high quality food and beautifully presented. The sweetbreads and lamb served three ways were particular highlights. We would highly recommend - best food we have eaten in Scotland.

Last minute booking at the Cross, found ourselves and another couple the only diners that evening. Made to feel welcome by and owners and staff were very attentive. Two choices of menus, decided on the taster and we were not disappointed. The chef's eye for detail and the presentation and taste of the food was of a high standard. I believe the chef is young but certainly a rising star if he continues with this quality. There is a wide choice of wine on offer, something for everyone. The dining room was cosy with an open fire, it was a shame it was not busier, this did not in any way spoil our dining experience.
There have been mixed reviews of this restaurant, but with my recent experience I would recommended trying it.

We were the only people in the restaurant on the evening we chose to dine at the Cross so unfortunately the atmosphere was lacking but the food was an interesting experience as a one-off. We did not have a choice outside the tasting menu experience except for a a preference between 2 dishes (fish or meat) for the 'main course' - nibbles were delicious parsnip and beetroot crisps and olives, first course tomato jelly and crab meat (very cold so not as flavoursome as it might have been), butternut squash soup with goats cheese dumpling (delicious and would happily have just eaten that), pork belly with picallili and prawns (yep a bit of an odd combination which just didn't wok for me and struck me as being strange for the sake of it), main course was lamb served in different ways including a small potato stuffed with lamb and a tiny half a carrot with thyme jus (sorry didn't work for me but lamb is not my favourite meat), sorbet course was super blood orange with lemon curd and was great palate cleanser in preparation for the banana parfait with chocolate mousse and peanut ice-cream. It was an interesting and very expensive experience but on the whole i would prefer to choose my courses, pay accordingly and would probably not dine at the Cross again.

My wife and I dined at the Cross after a recommendation from friends that we were staying with locally. We received a warm and friendly welcome from hosts Celia & Derek. The staff were very friendly, knowledgeable and efficient. The food was absolutely delicious and tasted as good as it looked ! (The pictures look like they may have been truncated but give an idea of the meticulous presentation.) We felt that the meal was excellent value for money at £50 for five courses and look forward to our next visit. A thoroughly enjoyable experience.
