“Excellent - Exceeded all Expectations”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 6, 2013

I stay in a lot of hotels through both work & pleasure and this one is special - The new owners have only taken over 4 months ago and are doing a fabulous job. The customer service is exceptional and the meals were all outstanding - It may not have an official 5 star rating however we certainly had a 5 star experience. Strongly recommend.

Usually not stuck for words or description but there are not enough superlatives for this hotel!WOW FACTOR TOP MARKS, CLASSY BEYOND BELIEF, QUALITY - OH YES AND COMFORT BEYOND BELIEF!

Somehow they achieve a unique balance of comfort, elegance and style that is hard to pin down but just makes you want to stay!

My husband calls it the 'wooden curtains' hotel by which he means the wonderfully restored original wooden shutters which are wonderful and very welcome when you have had a long drive and want a sleep in! We had the SPEY suite (all suites had their own names) and there was more space in this suite than in the whole upstairs of my modern semi! My husband pointed out that the dark wood and quality leather is something apreciated by men and the four poster and lace curtains lend a feminine touch which just works!

The food was amazing and the menu always being refreshed and developed. The guest lounge - well if you were to imagine a great big christmas house party with all your friends and family - this is where it would be!

Everywhere was very warm and cosy and you could spend an hour just looking round at the features and ornaments before perhaps taking a book and a coffee out to the gorgeous private gardens!

Parking was secluded and safe and there is a well provisioned village a few hundred yards away - that is if you can tear yourself away from this amazing hotel that is!

Maybe the best thing about this hotel is the OWNERS because they are passionate, hard working and have great plans for the place which include installing only fine antiques and only the finest of furnishings carefully chosen.

The driveway was a little difficult to spot in the dark but there are plans to light the full length of it and illuminate the signs more at night.

Forgot to mention the amazingly convenient location only a short distance from the main highway north and you will have to go to appreciate the breathtaking scenery it backs on to!

THINK REST, TRANQUILLITY, CONVIVIAL COMPANY, COSY RESTAURANT, SUMPTUOUS FOOD, FINE WINES AND AWARD WINNING BEERS FOLLOWED BY A COMFORTABLE BED IN YOUR OWN WARM SUITE.....AH!

Room Tip: The 'romantic package' is very much worth the extra small charge! go on treat yourselves!

6 of us recently visited for a birthday meal. I have stayed and eaten at this hotel in the past but new owners have recently taken over. Meal was very good although the cheese board was very minimal. Service was excellent and I wish the new owner every success.

We stayed here on the bank holiday weekend and had a brilliant time. We stayed in the penthouse suite which had it's own front door, a bench outside to watch the ducks, very big double bed and double bath tub. It also had a shower which was handy. The owner/manager (Mark) was so helpful and really went the extra mile. The food was amazing, we had the 6 course taster menu but there was lots of choice if you didn't go for this option. There was also a large selection of local beers. The location was idyllic, we made the most of being out of the city by heading to the hills for the day. I'd recommend this hotel for anyone looking for a quiet Highland break!

My girtlfriend and I were on a trip around Scotland. We reserved a room at the Columba House Hotel the morning of our stay. We had a beautiful room and the dinner was perfect. The prices are right, there is plenty of parking and you can see that the staff love what they do. We would go again in a heartbeat!

A former manse is the centrepiece of this small-ish hotel in the highlands. Near, but far enough away from the A9 trunk road not to hear the traffic drone.

Mark and Yolanda moved in as owners just three months ago, so they have yet to get to grips with slightly tired buildings. Nevertheless, our night was comfortable in a room in a converted cottage.

The best part of our stay, however, was the food. Mark was the executive chef at one of the British Isles' leading hotel chains, so he knows a thing or two about cooking. Locally sourced ingredients and a sure touch in the kitchen made for an excellent dinner and invigorating breakfast. We are sure that, once they have got their feet firmly beneath the table, the couple will turn the Columba House into one of the 'must stay' hotels in that part of Scotland.

This was a lovely place tucked away in Kingussie. The owner makes you feel very welcome. There is a restaurant on premise for dinner. The food was excellent. This is a great place to stay if you want a central location. It is one hr from Inverness and 1.5hrs from Fort William. The room was clean and charming. Had a lovely sitting room off the dining room with a fireplace.Highly recommend.
