I have just returned from a wonderfully relaxing weekend with my best friend full of girly chats and cups of tea!! The wooden chalet was great, comfy leather sofas, well appointed layout, comfy beds, tv/DVD player, plenty hot water and heaters that keep you as toastie as you like! All of my fears from some of the reviews on here were quashed, you can't please some people.... I'd go back anytime, with friends, my hubby and kids... You can even take your dog!
I can also say that I got the best service, the most genuine and lovely service from the staff at the hotel. I had car trouble and couldn't check out on time (waiting for mechanic) and they were so friendly and helpful even offering me a free cup of tea whilst I was waiting.... You just can't buy that kind of service!!!

Visited Altamount chalets over Aug bank holiday. From the website photos I expected them to be in a wooded, more rural location, however they are set in a kind of layby just off the main road, which was a bit noisy when sitting on the terrace. Also several peacocks roaming around who are quite noisy. However, the standard of accommodation exceeded my expectations. Immaculately clean with lovely comfy sofas. Bathroom a bit dated but again pristine and serviceable so no complaints. Fully equipped kitchen with oven, microwave and even washing machine. The fridge had seen better days, the shelves in the door were broken and kept falling off and disappointingly, no freezer bit for your ice packs. The only other gripe i have is that the mattress was very thin and lumpy. Great location for sight seeing and local towns has plenty of restaurants and takeaways. All in all i would recommend especially if you can pick up a vouchet deal like us ... 116.00 for 3 nights, 1 bed chalet.

To be honest i dont know what people want from a log cabin at these prices. The cabins in my opinion were very good ,they had everything you needed, plenty of hot water, clean great comfy bed, loads of drawer and wardrobe space and a flat screen TV.
We stayed here for 3 days and returned yesterday,we took our mountain bikes to see some of the sites around Blairgowrie and to be fair it was really very good.
Nice Indian (although a little pricey) Wetherspoons pub was a typical Weatherspoons pub.
We had no 8 Chalet(Ivy Lodge) It was fine.Never got bothered by any Peacocks, noises from the road as others have stated previously.
Would reccomend these apts, next time would stay longer then 3 days as we travelled from Sheffield and at 6 hours travelling time was not long enough.

Room Tip: Chalet 8 was good.

My partner and I had a really relaxing break at the chalets. We got a KGB deal and though, 'why not?' despite a couple of dodgy reviews on here. The chalet was clean, comfortable and had all the facilities that we needed. We made friends with the peacocks, who came to visit us every day for their bread! It's only a 5 minute walk into the centre of Blairgowrie, where we enjoyed a nice Indian meal. The location overall, is ideal to explore the rest of Perthshire and we would definitely go back.

First thing ull notice is that the pictures on there site are deceiving....its 20m from houses and its next to a road...the tennis court is not located within the grounds of the holiday site, it is a private club.

the chalets very clean and modern..number 12 - we had a hd tv with dvd player and freeview..the bathroom had been updated and basically had no faults at all from the inside of the chalet, a little small but was big enough for us. only thing i was pissed off is that the whole area is so small and not what i expected...and i thought that the chalet was seperate but we had one that was like a semi detached chalet, and you can hear them talking next door through the walls. also the next chalet was like 5 m away...all them are this distance apart

service was top notch...we couldnt lock the door and dvd player wouldnnt work but they came out and fixed it for us :) so 10/10 for that

not a lot for children to do, could do with a park at least

would NOT recommend cargill bistro - we waited 2 hours for our starter and meal...better sticking to toazaads kebab shop ( we got a delivery to the chalet) or a chinese but cant remember the name

Room Tip: number 12 was our room -cant comment on the rest

So, I contacted Sheila to book accommodation...we stayed 3 nights. Communication via email was exceptional! Even down to the information of where to wash our clothes in the local launderette (Blair's, on Emma Street...they do a bag was for under £9...that's washed and dried....and we had BIG bags...great service...we needed a quick turn-a-round, and they managed it all in 2.5 hours!!!)

Anyway, having read the reviews after booking, I became a little worried....for absolutely NO reason.

If you are expecting 5* accommodation, then you surely cannot expect to pay these prices for that!!

We were in Chalet 8, and the peacocks certainly like to sing in the morning...such a peculiar sound actually made us laugh every morning...a lot!!

On arrival, we had to go to the hotel up the hill for the key, and hunted for the chalet....the girl at reception did ask if we required help, but it was fun to hunt...there aren't that many to search through and if you are able to count from 1 to 20 you shouldn't have much trouble finding where you're supposed to be!

Entering the chalet, you have a bathroom, bedroom, kitchen and lounge...plus small terrace. The sofas in the lounge were really lovely...having read the horrific reviews I was expecting terrible broken furniture, and they were just divine! There is a TV, with free view...a DVD player would have been the icing on the cake, but you can't have everything.

The kitchen had the basics: pots, pans etc....the only thing that would have been helpful would be salt, pepper and oil. If we were staying longer we would obviously have purchased these from the local supermarket (there is a Tescos in the centre of Blairgowrie...less than 10 minute drive) or Co-Op, a 2 minute walk down the road from the chalet complex (right out of the entrance). I wonder if Sheila offers a small 'Kitchen Pack' for a fee with those basics....I never thought to ask, but if not, it may be a good idea...you'll never need a full bottle of oil, or pack/tub of salt for a short stay, but a little ideal sized 'kitchen pack' would be perfect....I'd certainly pay a little extra for that!!

The bedroom isn't massive, but it isn't small...you can get around both sides of the bed....and the bed is comfortable! There is also a wardrobe and large set of drawers.

The bathroom has just a bath...no shower!! There was a device provided to attach to the taps (which shot off when you turned them on :-), but it wasn't for attaching to the wall for a shower!...there is no shower curtain. This would be my only issue with the chalet. I love a bath, but my partner HATES the idea of 'sitting in your filth' as she puts it, without showering it off afterwards...so if you are of the same thought process, bear that in mind! Maybe other chalets have a shower...so ask in advance!

The complex is next to a road...but it really didn't bother us at all! It was so comfortable in the chalet, that honestly, we couldn't care less! Having come from a hotel that WAS in the middle of nowhere, blissfully quiet surroundings..it had an uncomfortable old nasty matress, old fixtures and fittings, crumbling paintwork and overpriced food...so the chalet really was a breath of fresh air!

The staff were absolutely wonderful, friendly, welcoming and very helpful!!

On our last full day we decided to try the first part of the Cateran Trail.....7 miles, which apparently should take 2.5 hours (according to one online source)...Shelia printed a couple of maps, and pointed us in the direction of the tourist office (less than 5 minute walk from the hotel) for better maps.

We purchased the Rucksack Readers Cateran Trail guide, as it has a written step by step guide for those not quite so orienteering savvy! Be warned though...in the guide when it states 'soon, you will reach', soon in actual fact means 'in a while'!! For two novice walkers, knowing this beforehand would have been useful :-)

We took a steady pace and stopped to nibble on our packed lunch twice, and made it to the Bridge of Cally in less than 4 hours...having taken many photos on the way! Our rather optimistic thought of returning the same way was soon scratched when we reached the hotel at the end...we were pooped, and decided to get the bus back to blairgowrie....however...the bus did not turn up...so after a refuel at the hotel/bar/restaurant, we felt walking the bus route would be easier. 2.5 hours later, we were back in Blairegowrie....our quick hike turned into quite an adventure. 40 minutes from the finish seeing the later bus pass did make us smile with an 'oh well' shrug....it was a lovely sunny day, and we were having fun. I wouldn't recommend the walk back via the road....I forgot is was a 70mph route, so you have to be very very careful and alert!

We were actually sad to leave...if we had more time, we would definitely have stayed longer!

We will be back!
