“A lovely break”
Reviewed July 8, 2013

Just returned from a fantastic family weekend at these chalets, I must admit I was apprehensive as to what to expect after reading some of the reviews on here but I can honestly say I was pleasantly surprised. The chalet was clean and very comfortable, yes the bedrooms were a bit small but it didnt cause us much of a problem, nice living area with two very comfy sofas and a good size dining table, a adequately equipped kitchen which was very clean. We were lucky and had beautiful weather all weekend so made the most of our lovely veranda. The chalets are in lovely settings, yes you can hear traffic on the road but it's not that noisy and the peacocks did wake us a couple of times in the morning but we loved seeing them roaming around. We stayed here for a family wedding which centred around the Altamount Hotel and my only complaint would be about the steps that lead up from the chalets to the hotel, these steps are a death trap!, trying to negotiate them at night in the dark is lethal, no lighting provided and the owners really do need to get this sorted out. Overall, we had a great time and would definitely book these chalets again

This was a three day kgb deal which we had to cut short to two days. It was good value for money. Reception staff at the hotel were friendly and helpful and the chalets were clean and quite acceptable although not luxurious. The chalets are close to a main road so the view is not as good as I'd hoped for. Noise from the road is not noticeable but the beautiful peacocks can make a real racket, early in the morning. The albino peacock roosted directly above our chalet (no 8) so maybe we were unlucky. Overall we enjoyed the time there.

Room Tip: Maybe avoid our friendly albino peacock's roost!

Booked on a Kgb deal, Arrived at the altamount around 7pm,check in quick, was handed key not much assistance in finding chalet, receptionist just said numbers were on chalets. We were in no.2, one of us had to get out of the car with a torch as not very well lit and couldn't see the numbers. First impression upon entering chalet yes I agree with a lot of the reviews very dated , but reasonably clean ,certainly not luxury as advertised. Be warned the bedrooms are tiny, twin beds and A bunk bed room which was not big enough for 2 people to be in at the same time. Apparantly all the chalets are like that, or so i was told when i called to confirm our booking a few days before, i was a bit shocked when i was told of the bedrooms and even commented there are 4 adults coming, only to be told all the chalets are the same. The beds were not made up, am not surprised because the top bunk was a nightmare to make, they didnt look full size either so a tall adult would struggle, there is hardly any storage space for clothes especially in the bunk room. Weather was bitterley cold, but heaters were on when we arrived which was a bonus! The chalet still felt cold and there is no heater in twin room, however there is a fan heater in the bathroom which quickly heated, once we got settled chalet was warm. Kitchen utensils were limited but living area was adequate nice big table and chairs, lounge furniture adequate, lovely big vernada window with patio furniture which would be lovely in the summer. The grounds are lovely and the chalets are only a five minute walk into Blairgowrie which has plenty of shops, supermarkets, bars, and restaurants, unfortunately we had to cut our stay short due to an emergency only managed one night. Would we go back? To those chalets i dont think so, , but the area definitely, chalets would suit 2 adults and 2 kids

My partner and I stayed in no 12 chalet for 3 nights. It is deceptive online as looks like in a quiet location but is very close to road, although never heard much noise when in chalet. The chalet was cold on arrival (as would expect) but quickly warmed up. It was clean and had everything you would need. Went to a local hotel for a meal out - food was really good. Bed was comfy and we both slept well all night. Chalet was comfy, cosy and the perect getaway for us. The peaocks kept us entertained too and are very friendly. Only tiny minor fault was the shower hose kept tipping forward and had to keep lifting it back up in its cradle - very minor. The hot and cold tap wrong way round in kitchen which burnt my hand the first time...

Nice friendly greeting, was allowed into chalet much earlier than normal. Chalet No1 near road but not an issue outside morning and evening commute. Was pleasantly suprised after reading previous reports, chalet was clean comfortable and very cozy given sub zero temperatures during the night. Minor fault with bathroom heater but resolved within an hour of notifying staff with no inconvience to us at all.
Only spent 3 days there but would have been quite happy to stay longer.
The people in Blairgowrie all struck me as being very friendly as with the staff at Altamount who were nothing but pleasant and helpful when we spoke to them.
The peacocks were a nice touch.
Overall a relaxing 3 days in pleasant surroundings and wouldn't hesitate to come back

Room Tip: Chalet 1 is right at the end, out the road of everyone, next to the road but no an issue in general

Was expecting the worse when I read the reviews AFTER I had booked a groupon. Pleasantly surprised ok not 5 star but what do you expect at that price, very warm and cosy. A wee bit lacking in utensils etc but we managed fine. Visited the local indian, was ok but quite a wait. Peacocks quite tame sit on the chalets roof at night waiting on you coming in. We were in no 1 so near the road, quiet at night but it is a busy toad during the day. Chalet clean and we would definitely return if there was another groupon.

Room Tip: It's all fine no 1 on the roadside but still enjoyed it

Stayed in Cabin no10 with our 1yr old son and 5yr old daughter.

Pros
Lovely big window / door opposite the sofa
Only 1 heater in living room but it kept us all cozy
Heater in bunk room kept it very warm
Light next to beds
tv inc dvd and freeview
Yes basic dated kitchen but everything worked - cooker, micro, fridge
Super big table to eat at and draw pictures etc at play board games
Spacious verandah (altho we didn't try it as it's Feb!)
Asked for earlier check in and this was accommodated which was brilliant
Plenty car parking
5mins walk to Tesco and Blairgowrie town

Cons
No space for travel cot in either bedroom so he slept in the living room
Walls are very thin, heard my daughter snoring and talking!
No heater in twin room and the window was drafty
Lack of utensils - no tin opener
No freezer compartment
Near the main road although the noise didn't affect us as we were further back into the site
Bathroom window sounded and felt like it was open but wouldn't close any further but there was a great heater and shower so wasn't cold in there

All in all we had a lovely long weekend away because at the end of the day it's what you make it.
My daughter was delighted sleeping up in the bunk bed and my son was happy playing with his cars on the wooden floor. Lovely grounds to walk round with my toddler.
