West Freuchies Bed and Breakfast
Ranked #3 of 14 Blairgowrie B&B and Inns
Reviewed April 27, 2012

We've stopped at West Freuchies twice now and both times have been wonderful.
Eileen & Oliver cannot do enough for you and are full of advice and information of places to go, things to do and where to eat if you've not been here before.
The choices for breakfast is superb and the home-made cake on arrival is to die for !
We look forward to visiting again next Easter.

We are getting married in the area in October and needed to find a place to recommend to our guests. Having previously stayed at another B&B just down the road that we were less than impressed with we decided to give West Freuchies a go. Our journey from Hampshire to Scotland was traumatic to say the least, we broke down, missed our appointments to set our wedding vows etc however due to a very kind AA man we managed to eventually make it up to Eileen and Oliver. After an incredibly warm welcome, a cup of tea and a slice of Eileens amazing cake, Eileen showed me a copy of my confirmation letter - I had booked us in on the wrong night!!! So even though we weren't even supposed to be there on that night, Eileen and Oliver welcomed us as though no mistake had been made! I think I may well have had the single most comfortable nights sleep I have ever had in my life at West Freuchies and the whole place is immaculately clean and tidy. There is a beautiful family room too that looks out across the amazing countryside. Eileens breakfasts are a complete treat, everything is homemade, even the bread! Oliver is a very talented photographer and took the time out to show me his photographs of the area which interested me greatly as I too have a passion for photography. We have no hesitation in recommending West Freuchies to our wedding guests and will be up again soon to stay ourselves. Thank you Eileen and Oliver – Kay & Jon xxx

Room Tip: All rooms are amazing!

My sister and I walked the Cateran Trail in late March and spent two nights with Eileen and Oliver. Their house is a beautiful place to relax after a hard day's walking. Oliver was very knowledgeable about the area and Eileen's breakfasts set us up for the day. Very warm and caring couple.

From the moment Oliver picked us up from the Spittal of Glenshee, I sensed we would have a good stay in West Freuchies. Both Eileen and Oliver couldn't have been more helpful and informative. Their relaxed style made us feel like friends more than guests and they even introduced us to the wonderful game of "Tri onimoes" (a version of dominoes) when we had a shorter walking day due to the heavy pre-Easter snow. The accommodation was excellent as were both dinner and breakfast - be sure to try the smoked haddock at breakfast, the best I've ever had. I also loved the local Glenisla Hotel bar about 10 minutes walk from West Freuchies.

Room Tip: Both of the upstairs bedrooms are lovely and share a delightful sitting room with a verandah overloo...

An exceptionally friendly couple, Eileen and Oliver make you feel at home instantly. Rooms are excellent and immaculately clean. There is an extensive breakfast menu to choose from and always cooked to perfection. When available, Eileen's dinners are a treat. You will not find a better B&B and we highly recommend a stay at the fabulous West Freuchies. We stayed 6 nights with our two teenage sons and went skiing at nearby Glenshee.

Firstly, yes, you can believe all the reviews saying this place is 'Excellent' because it really is. Once in a blue moon you find a remarkable place and unbelievably we lucked out both here and at a hotel we stayed at in Edinburgh for a couple of nights afterwards making our trip to Scotland one of the best holidays we've ever had!
The location is stunning and I only wish we'd been able to spend more time here to go on walks and spot some wildlife. However, that is not the only thing that makes this place, you'll find a superbly comfortable bedroom; the whole place is IMMACULATE and as if that wasn't enough, the most wonderfully kind, welcoming and generous hosts (Eileen and Oliver) and food that surpasses all expectations. If you think I'm indulging in spot of hyperbole you just have to see for yourselves. Eileen has a genuine and rare talent for cooking and her passion shines through in all the homemade components of your breakfast: fruit compote, jams, home-made bread, the eggs are from their own hens, the haddock travels down especially from Aberdeen. We had an evening meal of the best chicken pie we've ever eaten and award-winning puddings. The accommodation also comprises a sitting-room for guest-use only, which was great as there was a lovely family staying at the same time as us and we got to retire to the sitting-room and drink coffee with them until late. It's great not to be cooped up in your bedroom in a B&B. In short, this place most definitely deserves every single one of its Tripadvisor 5 stars, for those who prefer self-catering there's also a great-looking mill attached to the house and run by the same couple. I would jump at the opportunity to return. Thank you Eileen and Oliver for making our stay so special.

A wonderful place to stay and way beyond what you'd expect of a B&B. We spent two nights here whilst walking the Cateran Trail but would like to come back for a longer stay. Eileen and Oliver couldn't have done more to make us welcome and to interpret our needs as walkers.
And we must mention that the food is superb. Thanks Eileen & Oliver.
