“Great value weekend break”
Reviewed May 9, 2013

Just back from a Friday to Monday Shearings coach break. Contrary to some other reviewers we had a decent room (no. 442) on the first floor, with an extra bed if needed. Ok a tiny television but we hardly watch tv on holiday.

The hotel has obviously seen better days but has a very English charm and a nice relaxed atmosphere fronted by pleasant gardens.

Food was good and well presented, The staff were very efficient and pleasant.

The main excursion a 'round the island' tour was a bit misleading but ok if you want tea shops or a pearl shop at each stop. As the weather was a bit grim that morning, I suppose it was a day out!

We did not take the Sunday optional excursion but instead we found the train station (about 300 mtrs or 10 minutes away) and spent an excellent day in Ryde. The line ends at Shanklin going the other way.

Steve the driver kept the coach informed of local history and did a great job on a busy Bank Holiday weekend.

An excellent value for money break which I would gladly recommend.

stayed on the 3rd to the 6th of may .the hotel was very nice and clean all over but the room was very dated and old. the food was very good for a 3 star hotel and the staff was very polite and couldnt do enough for you,Steve the driver always went out of his way to help you and he was a fantastic driver round those small town roads. The entertainment was very good and the hotel was value for money for what we paid .This was our first shearings holiday and not the last.

Room Tip: upgrade if possible to another room

We have just returned from a 4-night stay at this hotel, travelling on a coach holiday with Shearing's.

Our room and bathroom at the hotel was rather dated., but , we were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food in the restaurant and the choices to be had. The service was very good and must give a special mention for our Hungarian waiter Akun. The evening entertainment was enjoyable .

All in all, we found the trip with Shearing's excellent value for money

Room Tip: We were on the second floor and found it to be nice and quiet. One big plus was that you could not...

Stayed from 3rd to 6th May. Our hotel room was extremely dated. And some parts were very shabby. Bathroom could do with a complete overhaul. My parents in the room next to us had a flat screen tv with freeview- whereas our room was a box set from the early 90's with 5 channels (bbc 1 no reception) surely as we paid the same price we should have the same facilities? Staff were great! Lady on reception lent me her phone charger as I had forgotten mine. Food was what was to be expected from the price paid. Never went hungry. Drinks were extremely pricey! Nice location, only a short walk to the sea front.

Just back from a few days staying at the Broadway Park Hotel, Isle of Wight. The hotel, set in attractive grounds close to the sea front. The rooms, recently refurbished, provided just what we required to make our stay comfortable and relaxing. French windows onto gardens filled with flowers. The staff were immensely efficient and helpful, particularly the reception, serving staff and the lady that looked after our room called Angie. The only difficult to track down members on the payroll were the Red Squirrels! The only ones we saw were on the postcard we bought to send home!

Room Tip: The beds don't come with a top sheet, but you only have to ask!

Having just spent 3 nights there the facilities that were asked for were not available upon arrival. The bedroom was dowdy and the carpet in need of renewal. The decor needed re-doing. The shower above the bath kept falling down. In fairness, when told about this, the management had it repaired. We originally requested disabled facility rooms on the ground floor but were given rooms upstairs. This was altered and we received that which we asked for. The staff were accommodating and pleasant and I have no complaint there. The food was not up to a good standard except for Saturday when it was great. The breakfast, sausages and bacon were hard as if overcooked. Our friends with whom we went with had been twice before and said that standards had definately dropped. No complaints about the entertainment, very good. I did however object paying £5 a night to park the car.
