“Awesome Golf Resort”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 18, 2007

Starting with the initial booking, the staff were extremely helpful and accommodating.

Upon arrival, we were met at the entrance, welcomed to the resort, our car was valet parked and we were treated like long lost friends! Our golf clubs were taken to the golf range and our luggage was taken to our room.

The accommodation comprises a number of cottages close to the main lodge. The room can only be described as fantastic. There is a large bedroom/lounge with an open fire; a very large bathroom with separate his & hers washbasins and counters, separate shower and toilet; a dressing room with drawers and plenty of hanging space; and a well stocked mini-bar (beer, soft drinks and snacks are complimentary).

The golfing facilities are first class. The views from the course can only be described as unbelievable – it has just been voted 2nd best views from any golf course in the world. Greg the professional, was extremely helpful and also a very good teacher. Nothing was too much trouble for him to organise. The course was very quiet so we could play when we wanted. The course is pretty long at 7119 yards off the blue tees, but a more manageable 6489 yards off the whites. The ladies have a choice of 5774 yards off the reds or 4897 yards off the yellows. The course was in great condition and provided a good test of your golf in the gentle breeze on the days we played.

Prior to dinner every evening there is a cocktail hour with complimentary drinks. Dinner varies from a standard menu to a 5 course tasting menu. Wine is extra during your meal.
The Spa which has only been here for 10 months but is well established also provided an excellent service with a good variety of treatments and very friendly staff. It also has a lap pool, gym, hot-tub and sauna which are open to all guests.
During our stay the staff could not have been more helpful. They suggested ways in which to make our stay more enjoyable and were also very willing to organise offsite activities for you, such as sea fishing or sight-seeing trips.

All in all, we had a fantastic 3 night holiday at Kauri Cliffs and would recommend it to anyone.

We stayed there last fall with our two year old. Absolutely wonderful on every level. We don't play golf, but still enjoyed the resort enormously. The staff were incredibly hospitable and bent over backwards to accommodate our child. Rooms were very nice and comfortable, scenery is breathtaking, food was superb, dining room service was spot on, and the wine list was great, too. Can't wait to go back! Highest recommendation!

This place is spectacular! We don't play golf but yet had a great time at this place with our 2 young children.

Rooms: The rooms are homely and beautiful with a large bathroom, fireplace and balcony. The complimentary mini-bar was thoughtful - not the usual mini bars you find in hotels.

Restaurant: The food in the restaurant was world class and absolutely amazing. Every night the food was different and selected from a set menu. Wonderful selection of NZ wine.

Location: The hotel is about half hour from the nearest airport - Kerikeri where we flew in from Auckland. You can drive, but flying is quicker. The hotel is located on top of a cliff facing the ocean.

Activities: There is a small pool but the best fun we had was that even though we don't play golf, we could take the golf carts ourselves and drive around the golf course and enjoy the scenery. The golf course is amazing with a different view for every hole. There is a private beach in the resort where you either hike to or get a chauffeured car. It's a pebbly beach but the hotel can arrange picnics on the beach and since it is private, it was lovely. There is also a farm tour.

Spa: Can be full on a rainy day, I thought it was so-so.

Kids: Our children were made very welcome and babysitting is available.

Overall we had a great time, the resort is expensive but with the standard of food and accommodation it was worth it (although did feel the price was out of range considering the location)

My wife and I were fortunate to stay for 3 days at Kauri in November as part of a three month trip and we were very pleased with ourselves that we had made the decision to go there. The reason we had booked KC was because of the reputation of the golf course, but we have to say that of all the many places we stayed during our long trip this was the most memorable overall, certainly the best of the non city venues. Right from the moment we arrived to the time we left we were made to feel so welcome, more like part of the family than paying guests,
Highlights for us were
-the food (superb, from breakfast to lunch to dinner, all amazing) and
-the accomodation (amazing!)
- and of course the golf...we were lucky to play several wonderful courses in places during our trip but once we got to Kauri we immediately realised why the venue has consistently been voted amongst the top 50 clubs in the world.....a 6,000 acre estate, with about 500 acres devoted to the golf course, about half the holes are spread around the cliffs along the Pacific and the other half are just as incredible..... (pity my game wasn't as stunning as the course,,,,,, but thats another story!). We heard that the owner of Kinsale Old Head course in Ireland (another world class course) was there in Nov 06 before us and apparently even he was very impressed with Kauri.....

During our stay all the other guests we met were delightful people, we got the opportunity to dine with some and get to know them....

Wondeful and helpful staff as well, cant praise them highly enough.....

All in all a wonderful place, pricey but worth every dollar, a highly recommended getaway even for non golfers! Will definitely return if ever get to that part of the world again!

this was our first stop on out honeuymoon and after a long day of traveling from miami - to la - to auckland and then drive up to the north - we could not think of a better place to unwind than kauri cliffs - a beautiful setting with amazing food and great wine - they have a wonderful spa and most of all one of the greatest golf courses in the world - founded by a billionaire Julian Robertson, who has also created an even better track further south called cape kidnappers -

We stayed for 5 nights in mid January at the beginning of a 7 week tour of NZ. During our trip we stayed in a variety of mid and up-scale places. Kauri Cliffs was our favourite (narrowly ahead of Blanket Bay and Grasmere Lodge and miles ahead of Huka Lodge). The rooms are large, beautifully furnished and immaculately maintained. Many nice touches like extra water and fruit, good toiletries, lots of towels. The food was consistently superb. The golf facilities are world class.

Service was impeccable. It was friendly but professional and discreet. Most importantly we always had the feeling that the team felt it to be part of their responsibility that we had a good time- they helped us plan our day trips, gave us excellent suggestions and route advice and also laid on some wonderful activities on the property. As a result we got a lot out of our stay in this area, seeing a lot of Northland and the Bay of Islands.

This was a great introduction to NZ hospitality and will rank as one of our all-time favourite stays.

We understand they will add a larger spa and pool to the property- when they have done that this will be an unbeatable place.

Rooms were excellent, huge and nicely furnished with a great deck. Food and drinks were very good. Service was first rate. MAny Activities; the golf course is first class - if difficult. Private beaches and property were spectacular. STaff was extremely helpful and friendly. Would highly recommend, only downside is the price.
