Owner description: Affectionately dubbed the "Mother Road," this 2,400-mile route was the first all-weather, continuously paved highway linking Chicago and Los Angeles. The storied path is legendary for spawning America's signature roadside architecture and attractions, vestiges of which remain today.

Great time to stop & use the facilities & take a quick side trip! Part of American history so was cool... Can say we did it! Wanted to make that right turn like bugs bunny! I really was hoping for Radiator Spings!! :)

We have just returned from a three week adventure on Route 66. To sum up it was heaps of fun.

We purchased Jerry McClanahan's books - EZ66 Guide for Travelers and Route 66 Dining and Lodging Guide. We found both very useful and certainly found some great places to visit from them. We also bought a Tom Tom which proved to be the best investment.

We were surprised how much of the original Route 66 remained and also how many states still had signs directing you onto the Route which were very helpful.

Our standout towns were Winslow and Williams for their ability to reinvent themselves. Some towns have completely faded away with just a few fallen down buildings to mark their existence.

Top food fun places were Roberts Grill in El Reno, Oklahoma; Cruisers in Williams, Arizona and 5 & Diner for its decor in St Robert in Missouri.

Top motels were Blue Swallow, Tucumari, New Mexico for its so retro rooms and delightful owners and La Posada, Winslow, Arizona for its amazing restoration.

Our top cities were St Louis, Missouri for its wonderful art gallery and Santa Fe, New Mexico for real Australian style coffee at the Betterday Cafe.

I did a solo trip along route 66 from Chicago to LA by motorcycle in 10 days. The trip was fantastic, the people friendly the scenery extraordinary and varied. The route is well preserved and signed through Illinois, Missouri and Oklahoma. Less so through parts of NM, Arizona and California. I also did side trips through the Petrified Forest National Park and the Grand Canyon.

We rented motorcycles from Las Vegas and among other attractions we took Route 66 from Needles to Kingman in Arizona. It was the very first time on such roads and quite a memorable experience. We stopped in Oatman and down again through a breath taking ride. Amazing view and scenery. I would do that again without any hesitation. Very well worth the time. The road itself can use a little more maintenance but I guess its condition brings more charm. Fully recommended for riders trying to get away fro busy streets! Bikers be careful, lanes are narrow and the road is very winding, ramps and turns are very steep.
