Fairly happy with Esplanade Lodge without getting too excited. Rooms basic but clean. Food good even served early on the Sunday as most guests were running GNR.

The Esplanade Lodge was certainly cheap but personally I believe that what ever you pay for accommodation there are certain basics that should be adhered too.

The concept of bed and breakfast is to offer bed and breakfast.

1) My bed sloped from side to side
2) 7.30 was too early for breakfast....and I would have struggled to get it upto an hour later.

+ points.....
The room was tired but it was clean, the b&b is in prime location for a night out and the sea front, You can come and go as you please, it was cheap and breakfast would have been available for later diners.

Personally I dont want to stay again but for a cheap night out its ok.

Arrived here, owner not in premises and was let in by a german girl who threw the keys at me told me which room i was in and said she was going out to a party. Got to the room - shared bathroom which was ok - but TV not working. Phoned recption and spoke to this gilr again but was hung up on by her. Returned to find here and tell her the problem to whcih she said she was not the owner so could not sort it out. When i asked to speak to the owner or chaneg rooms she got stroppy and her friend came over and told me it was too late for them to be repairing Tvs tonight so i could have another room - patronising?? Won/t be going back with that kind of customer service.

Found this great place by knocking on the door. It was a very cold blustery day and after looking at too many other lodgings for availability, we happened upon this B & B. The owner answered the door with his toddler in his arms and a welcoming smile on his face. Luckily he had a room available for my party of three. The lodging was very spacious (even by American standards), warm and clean. The rooms included electric tea pot, cups and packets of instant coffee. The owner offered sound advice on locations to eat (I would suggest The Fire Station...Tuesday special was a choice of 10 or so meals that included a drink for 5.99 pounds). A full cooked breakfast was included in the price of the room. The lodge is about 2 blocks from the water. The B & B is easy to reach and the street offers plenty of places to park (although the lodge has two car places available). If you are looking for a friendly, clean and non pricey B & B, The Esplanade Lodge is it.

I didn't know hotels this bad existed. We booked for 2 nights but only stayed one - we now know why they take your money when you check in. Our room was like a furnace throughout the day and night and despite many requests to turn the heating down, nothing was done. We asked for a quiet room and were put in an adjacent room to a stag party - kept us awake all night and started banging on our door in the middle of the night. The window frames had rotted away and the toilet wasn't clean. Breakfast was another horrible experience, congealed food and everyone else was drinking beer. We tried to complain to the manager but he was unavailable. The deputy was useless and there has been no response to our letter of complaint to the owner. Definitely a hotel where nobody cares - they've got your money and don't want to know about the problems. Don't ever stay here - it's not fit to be called a hotel.

We have just returned from a four night stay.
The owners (Neil and Tracey) really make you feel welcome, and your stay is really enjoyable.

The lodge is situated right in the centre of things. A 2 minute walk one way takes you to the beach, and 2 minutes the other way takes you to the town centre. there is an amusment arcade close by too. All the the tourist attractions are within easy driving distance, or you can leave the car and take the metro for little cost at all.

There are plenty restaraunts close by. Although we went to the Magic Lantern every night as they were doing a 2 meals for the price of 1 deal. The menu had very tasty choices and the servings were way more than we could manage.

We really enjoyed our stay and were sorry when our holiday ended. We would recommend a stay at the Esplanade Lodge, and we will be booking a stay there again in the future.
