The newly refurbished Playhouse is much improved from the old style theatre that we last visited; though someone must have made a tidy profit, out of the eight and a half million cost of the work. There is a large area on the ground floor which contains the box office, bar and seating. There are stairs and a lift to the first floor, which also has a bar and more comfortable seating. The seating layout in the auditorium is vastly improved but you would expect more comfort in the seats, given the amount of the refit spend. After an hour and a half, it reaches the numb bum zone. Customer comfort should be one of the most important features of any theatre but sadly seems to be lacking in most venues. It is almost as if the theatre management is saying that their acts are so boring, that they have to make the seats hard, to prevent the audience from falling asleep. You certainly couldn't say that of the excellent performance from Henning Wehn. We had a fantastic, really enjoyable night. The Playhouse staff are also to be commended on their politeness, helpfulness and friendliness; a credit to the theatre and we look forward to next time.

We come to Whitley Bay playhouse every year to see the Pantomime.

This year was ok, I’ve seen better. Steve Walls was great as per usual, and Ben Hanson was great too. Playhouse itself is clean, friendly staff, overpriced (as all theatre’s are!) but we enjoyed the show and will be returning next year.

Whilst I throughly enjoyed the Pantomime Peter Pan I was left feeling ripped off at the price of the drinks and popcorn. £16.80 for 4 Capri sun drinks, a bucket of popcorn and a coffee. This is even more annoying as you are not allowed to take your own into the venue. Bags are searched for contriband before you go in so you have no choice with thirsty children but to buy drinks whilst there!

We arrived early at the Theatre as the restaurant we hoped to go to was closed. It was a very cold night and the Theatre was open but we had to sit in the cold vestibule. The doorman was friendly enough but he had to obey orders. The only place I have seen where there was a queue for the men's toilets.

I was delighted to be asked to sing again (for the seventh time) at Whitley Bay Playhouse. The Playhouse was upgraded quite a few years ago now but it still has that special aura about the place! It was a wonderful feeling to be up there singing from the same stage as some of my musical hero’s. It was just one song per visit for a local Charity - North Tyneside Disability Forum but each time it was such a thrill. I sang there many years ago for the local Scouting Gang Show but then as part of a big group so singing solo was .something very special indeed. The seating is good and well laid out. I don't know the maximum occupancy but suspect it must be in excess of 500. The foyer area is also finished off very well.
