Stayed here for nearly a week, and throughly had the most welcoming, homely feel a hotel can give! greeted by the breakfast ladies politely by my name every morning, not surname but first (so nice at 7am everyday, honestly!!) and the food was great, greeted politely everyday by the receptionist, she could not of help me out or any person staying here anymore, she knew everywhere to see and go, and things to do.. Brilliant!! and served with a smile everytime!! a very nice Italian attached next door serves excellent food (do pre-book though as it does get very busy!! if you decide to eat after 6) My room was cleaned everyday! new towels everyday! and bed made throughout my stay!! All the sstaff here were great and would stay here over any hotel when i venture back up NORTH!! especially newcastle!!!!! Best Regards, Ryan.

We stayed here for my partners birthday and what a joy it was. fantastic sea view room with views along the coastline. I emailed ahead to ask for flowers and wine to be placed in the room as a surprise for my partner. Not only were the roses and wine in the room they had put some strawberries and chocolates there as well. what a lovely touch, thank you!
Dinner in the attached Italian restaurant was good value and lovely. The breakfast was all you could ask for with plenty of good quality, well presented fare.

we could not of asked for more during our stay and we will be back again.

Stayed here (once again) and it really does get better and better. Boss Julie, Julie and Marie (and other staff) make you very welcome from checking in to checking out.The rooms (various) that I have stayed in are very well decorated and comfortable with it. If you like a hearty breakfast, look no further - its all there. I travel a lot with work and am not easily impressed but The Royal Hotel is WELL worth a visit.

Just returned from a weekend here.
We were visiting whitley bay to go to the playhouse theatre and this hotel was ideally located for the theatre.
Upon arrival we were greeted by friendly staff and shown to a lovley large room with seaview. We had not paid for the seaview so this was a nice surprise. We booked this hotel because it stated that they did not have stag or hen parties and we were looking forward to a weekend of rest and relaxation. Unfortunately we were not aware there was a function room and a 21st party was scheduled for our 1st night. The function room was situated below our room and the party started at 7pm and went on until after midnight. We had to leave our tv on to drowned out the boom boom boom. Not a good 1st night sleep, thankfully no function was scheduled for our 2nd night and we got a good nights sleep followed by a lovley breakfast. If you are planing on booking this hotel just make sure that you are not in room 5 when a function is scheduled.

Room Tip: Not above the function room. Unfortunatly these are the rooms with the best views.

Just stayed for one night business. Great staff. Hotel great location. Breakfast fantastic. Went to local Wetherspoons which is about 10 mins walk.
The only downside was the meal I had in the adjoining Italian restaurant which was poor and overpriced for what it was. I did complain to no avail?
There are better places to eat around the hotel so give Divantis a miss.
Would definitely use this hotel again.
Opposite sea.

Recently stayed for 1 night and could not fault this lovely hotel.
The room was spotless tastfully decorated with fantasic sea views. All the staff where very friendly and very helpful. Breakfast was first class with a choice of full English and continental.
We had an evening meal at the Italian restaurant attached to the hotel and again this was 1st class and good value for money. Looking forward to staying again.
