“60 and still walking”
Review of The Venture Centre

The Venture Centre
Reviewed March 12, 2013

We had a short 3-day break at the center and had a fantastic time. The staff are fantastic: keen, polite, professional, highly-skilled. We were able to do kayaking, abseiling, gorge-walking, shooting and archery - filling nearly every hour of the day. We wanted to be challenged which we were, but never felt too far out-of-our depth and always had the experts on-hand to ensure nothing went wrong.
The accommodation is good - hot water all the time, heating through the night in the cold, and en-suite bathroom with 3 sharing (in our case). Highly recommended to try a new sport, or go further and challenge yourself to something you'd never otherwise do.

I have been here many times and it is a brilliant place for an adventurous family wanting a day out with a difference. There are many activities that you can do including gorge walking, kayaking, zip wire, assault course and many more! You can stay the night there and it is one of the places that i will hold in my heart forever! Lovely staff and food aswell!

I brought a school group here from Liverpool for about six years - we never had any complaints our children had a fantastic time from the welcome to the wave goodbye at the end of the week. The days are jammed packed with activity ledby experienced and well qualified staff, the home cooked food keeps them going all day the accommodation in the old farm buildings is all part of the adventure. Visits off centre to the glen and to mooragh park lake offer more than the average residential trip. I can't recommend it highly enough.

We went with our scout gruop for our anaul camp. Having been before 4 years previously we thought it would be impossible to better. It was amazing, the scouts and venture scouts and leaders had the time of their lives. Brilliant well run activites, safe instruction, brilliant very well trained staff, clean accomadation , good food, if you love the outdoors you have to stay here, our kids and us the most fantastic week we will never forget and we cant wait to return in 2014!
Thank you Venture centre!

The rooms are located in an old rundown barn without heat, and also with a kind of domestic animals - including mice and climb. The mattresses are covered with plastic, you do not get handed a sheet, you get an old sleeping bag to sleep in, and the pillow is worn. The hygiene at the place is unacceptable, especially on the eating place, and all in all, is the place uninhabitable! I would rather have slept in a tent in a field.

Thank you for your comments regarding your visit to our centre in September. We are sorry that you had problems during your stay with us. We are keen to address your issues.
Our bunkhouse is primarily aimed at clients who are participating in outdoor activities such as kayaking, coasteering, assault course, gorge walking etc. We feel that the style of accommodation is ideal for groups who come in from an active day and need robust cost effective facilities, to have a shower and put their head down in the evening. In all our literature we describe our facilities as basic bunkhouse accommodation. The facilities have full central heating and this is on from 6.00 p.m. – 11.00 p.m. and 6.00 a.m. – 9.00 a.m. as most groups who visit us are off site during the daytime. However in light of your comments we are reviewing our policy on this. We have also instigated a new cleaning regime.
As we are in a rural location the issue regarding mice is a constant one this is increased at harvest time when local fields are cut. We have taken on board your comments regarding this issue and have implemented more robust systems to combat this problem. We have also employed a new mouser “Ginger Ninja”. See her picture on the website. The type of mattress we use is in common use throughout bunk house providers in the UK. As described in our literature we ask group members to bring their own sleeping bags.
We aim to be open and honest about the nature of our accommodation and welcome advance inspection visits for group leaders considering a visit and can assist in ferry cost for this.
We thank you for your comments and can assure you we have seriously taken on board the comments made and are addressing all these issues.
