“Realistic and a touch spooky”

A lot of effort has been made to achieve a very picture on the origins of peoples and the legend of Manannan throughout history for the Isle of Man. This exhibition will require about 90 minutes of your time, with realistic displays of Celtic and Viking life through to modern day and an exclusive display by the Isle of Man Steam Packet Co. Located in Peel, and spread across four floors, it is a thoroughly enjoyable experience.

“Easily Found Information Centre/Museum”

We were impressed by the location of the House of Mannan. It services Tourists and Historians alike and the staff were most helpful. There was also a good range of gifts available to those of us who want to take a keepsake home with us.

This is an amazing place. A lot of thought has gone into the design to make it a perfect presentation of Manx history!

“Wow - thought Jorvik was good but this is better!”

So good in fact that we ran out of time on our first visit and only made it half way round the first floor so had to go back a second day. Yes ok, it's not 'serious' history like the Manx Museum in Douglas (you can do both - they complement each other well) but it is a really enthralling introduction to Manx History. Without spoiling it for future visitors by saying too much, we particularly liked the Celtic Round House and Viking Long House downstairs (and Odin's Raven of course) and the old Peel and Maritime Encounters experiences on the second level.

Staff here are very friendly and helpful and there is a really good shop and a nice cafe.

This Museum is an absolute must to visit and free to National Trust members. It is so well set out and appeals to all ages alike. The staff are very helpful and Rosemary, the guide the day we visited, kept appearing with just the right amount of information.
