A hotel of character. Extremely professional staff and the food is excellent. The rooms are clean and comfortable
An ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS venue for a wedding reception. I would highly recommend it

The male check-in agent at The Regency was pretty brusque. He had no record of my reservation and he was pretty attitudinal about it saying that some people book one hotel and turn up at another etc etc. Once I produced my confirmation email from The Regency clearly confirming my reservation, there was little by way of an explanation or apology. His female colleague, who was much more helpful, looked embarassed by his rudeness. So unecessary! Business standard room/suite was more than adequate and very well equipped with fax machine, internet-enabled computer, massive plasma screen TV (nearly too massive for the room). Bed was reasonable comfy if a bit soft. Tea/coffee making facilities and free soft drinks/mineral water in the fridge which was nice. Bathroom roomy and spotlessly clean with good range of high end products.

Cooked breakfast was of a high standard and plentiful though service was a bit chilly and slow despite there being very few guests.

I ordered room service (sandwiches) and they were fine.

Free shuttle service into town is very efficient and the driver very helpful and polite.

All in all a positive experience. If they could retrain or replace the grumpy git at reception, it would be to everyone's benefit.

I stayed at this hotel for one night whilst on business.

The hotel is on the sea front in Douglas, but please be aware that it is not near any of the shops or attractions, being about a 15-20 minute walk.

It is designed as a business hotel and as such works very well.

The hotel is quite old but has been refurbished to quite a high standard, but with a very old fashioned lift with manual metal gates.

The bedrooms were nicely furnished with a modern bathroom and medium sized with a modern television and free internet access using the computer provided in your bedroom. Please be aware that you cannot download files and there is no provision for attaching your own computer to the web.

There a good restaurant. I had both dinner and breakfast here. They were both of a high standard.

The hotel is good value and providing you don’t mind being slightly outside the centre would be suitable for business or leisure.

Stayed for one night, pleasant receptionist, chcked in fine. The room was great with a lovely view and more than enough facilities. the evening meal was not great and I was surprised it had a michelin rating. The lift is quirky but overall teh hotel has olde world charm and some really good "free" extras. The waitress at breakfast was quite rude but overall the staff were very helpful. Would stay there again

Hotel with a lovely traditional reception area. Good food and attractive dining room. A complimentary soft drink in room. Complimentary newspaper. WiFi is free and works well. The hotel is located at the end of a large bay and rooms at the front of the hotel have a super view over the sea.
The rooms are comfortable and clean.
The best of the hotels which I have used in Douglas, that is if you do not want the use of a gym or pool.

  • Liked — General feel of the hotel
  • Disliked — Lack of pool, gym

I stayed at the Regency for one night on business. I arrived mid evening, and was greeted by a very surly and unsmiling receptionist, who may be one of the owners. Signing in was accomplished without a smile or any dialogue. I was told how to find my way to the room, and encountered the antique lift which has just enough room for one person and a case. Any more would require several trips.

However, the room was large, quiet, clean with good internet access and a DVD.

The hotel displays a quirky policy over breakfast. There is no buffet, only waiter service. This does not lend itself to a quick getaway, but would be OK if you have time to relax.

Paying the bill was a repeat of the signing in experience, with the same unsmiling, but efficient receptionist. No small talk, like 'did you enjoy your stay?' etc.

It did represent reasonable value for money, but could be so much better with more emphasis on customers' total experience.

  • Liked — Cleanliness and facilities in room
  • Disliked — Surly receptionist, which was apparent with other staff
