“A lovely trip along Douglas Promenade”

The electric tram to Douglas terminates at the north end of the Promenade and the nicest way to get into Douglas is on the open sided horse drawn tram. There are plenty of dedicated tram stops along the length of the Promenade. We got off near the Sefton Hotel to take a look at the seated statue of Sir Norman Wisdom and have a drink in Sir Norman's Bar which is full of memorabilia. The ride on the horse drawn tram, a unique form of transport, was unforgettable.

We had a 7 day explorer ticket on IOM transport so used the horse trams several times during our stay.We did not quite see all the horses on the horse tram bingo but as we were staying on Loch Promenade we saw most of them going past. Its quite difficult to get on and of with steep steps particularly at intermediate stops when you have to get off quickly to avoid stopping the traffic for too long.

Bit of a step up and a squeeze and a bit chilly on the open carriage but a lovely experience and the cart/shirehorses are magnificent.

Brilliant way to get from one end of The Douglas Promenade to the other. Great fun & no waiting about involved.

Usually a pleasant journey, but if there are tour or school groups about, be wary as the slatted seats are narrow and being squashed in is no fun. Also the steps into the toatrack are very deep and can give difficulty to people with only slightly impaired mobility.
