We booked three nights here to make a long weekend after a short business meeting on the Island. We were pleased to find that the Admiral House was on the end of the promenade closest to the town centre and harbour, which meant that there was something to do in the evenings other than sit in the hotel. The room was well furnished, clean and very comfortable. We had a large bathroom with all the bits. The reception staff were very friendly and happy to do their job, unlike other places we've been to where it seems like you're interrupting their day. Breakfast was cooked to order and a buffet of cereals etc was well stocked, but we didn't eat in the evenings as we wanted to explore local restaurants. We found some good ones on the harbour side. The horse tram stops outside if you hail it and you get a nice ride along the prom. Recommend that you buy a visitors' pass from the information centre in the nearby harbour terminal building - this gets you 'free' travel all over the island on the buses, steam and electric trains, and the horse tram - and it's really good value if you make the most of your visit. We'd stay here again - and are already looking forward to it.

Room Tip: It might be nice to get a sea view, but we don't spend that much time in the room to need it...

The hotel is located at a very comfortable and strategic location in Douglas.

We arrived by air at Isle of Man airport. From there there is a bus at every 20 mins to Douglas, main city on the island. We took a 3 day pass costing 32GBP each. This pass covers bus, train( electric and Steam) and also horse driven tramcar. It was a 20-25 mins bus ride from airport to Douglas.

On the Douglas promenade , get down at the very first bus stop. You can clearly see the hotel as it is the very 1st hotel on the promenade. There is a big banner announcing the name of the restaurant JAR which is within the hotel on ground floor.

The stop for Horse driven tramcar is just outside the hotel. We took the horse driven tramcar from Hotel to other end of the promenade to the electric tramcar station for Laxey and Ramsey.

The reception staff was very courteous. The rooms were well prepared. We had requested the hotel for early check-in. This request was fulfilled by the hotel. This was very nice of them as we had arrived at hotel by 9 am getting up very early to catch the flight for IOM. Hotel has a very small lift just enough for 3-4 people but that is fine as it is mostly used by guests to take luggage on the 1st. Later we used stairs as it was quicker to use stairs.

The room was facing the street(towards the cafe side) but there was no noise. The room had all amenities like free WIFI(full signals) , iron board and electric kettle with complimentary sachets for tea and coffee and also a bottle of mineral water. Also they provided biscuits.

The breakfast served was very good. They were taking order for warm breakfast and preparing freshly in the kitchen. The restaurant staff was also very good in service.

While returning , we had to catch a ferry and so in that terms the hotel is 5 mins walking distance to the ferry.

I would definitely recommend this hotel.

This was our first time in the Isle of Man and this hotel made our stay. It's location was perfect for us, right on the unspoiled promenade and really handy for transport connections around the Island. Staff were fabulous and breakfast was great. We had a superior room which was huge, well appointed, well kept and spotlessly clean. The building is amazing.

This hotel is a very good location, walking distance from ferry, close to all amenities right on the prom. We arrived by air and got the bus from the airport, the bus stops just yards from the hotel. Room was clean and spacious, hairdryer and iron and ironing board provided. Double bed was comfortable. Tea/making facilities provided, which was great. Only problem with our room was it was on the side of the building facing another building, but it was ok as we didn't plan on spending the weekend in our room. I would like to thank Alex on reception who was very helpful, from the time of our booking, through to us leaving the hotel. Nothing was too much trouble for him. Would definitely recommend this hotel to family and friends.

Hotel had a great location for ferry travellers as it was only a couple of minutes walk from the terminal. We stayed on the third floor and had good views in our light and clean room. The single beds had a head and foot board, so tall guests may have to specify a double. The hotel is really well suited for any rail, bus, taxi or tram users. We used a bus on the Sunday and couldn't believe how friendly the staff are compared to our local service in the UK. We only had our breakfast at the hotel which was ok except for the slightly over-microwaved croissants. The chap on the reception was very helpful.

Room Tip: Book early for the best choice of room.

The hotel itself is more than acceptable - clean, comfortable and with willing, helpful staff, but the reason for this review is that the restaurant in the hotel serves absolutely stunning food, at really good prices. The menu is not huge but every dish I tried over three nights was superb. The restaurant staff were friendly without being intrusive and the service was first class. If you are planning a trip to Douglas for business, pleasure or a special occasion, this restaurant is the place to head for. The hotel manager said he had the best chef on the island, and I would find it difficult to disagree!

Stayed at The Admiral for 3 nights on a Short Break to Isle of Man. The hotel is perfectly located 5 mins walk from the boat. Situated on the sea front with all bars, shops & Restaurants only a stone throw away. The Bedroom was large and clean with all amenities you would require. Reception staff were friendly & helpful. Breakfast was freshly prepared to order and there was a good choice. The Horse tram stop is right in front of the hotel so no need for taxis or buses if you don't wish to walk the length of the promenade.
Would recommend this hotel & would stay again if returning to the Isle of Man.
