“Very nice ”
Reviewed July 16, 2014 via mobile

Booking for 3 , allocated a prime booth so very happy .

At first the restaurant appears dimly lit but when seated you will find it makes excellent use of a mirrored wall which gives a feeling of space .

3 course

To start crab fish cakes and queenies In tempura batter and a cheese soufflé - all very nice , good use of coriander

Mains - 2 x duck , lemon sole all delicious - very flavoursome

Unusually to finish we all had desert - sticky toffee something and black current and cassise cheesecake all with ice cream .

Now I don't eat deserts normally but the cheese cake and delightful ice cream were super .

Service was a tad on the slow side but I understand it's a fine line between leisurely enjoying your meal and waiting for it .

All washed down with a bottle of prosecuo

Excellent I will return

“Lovely lunch”
Reviewed July 11, 2014

Staying in Douglas for work and needed somewhere for a relaxing lunch and found this little gem on tripadvisor.

I settled on the set lunch, would have loved to have tried the numerous shellfish specials but with having to work this afternoon, I'll save them for another time.

Once sat down I was offered a wine list but again due to work declined, ordered water and was immediately asked if I wanted tap water, however I like sparking and was delighted with the large bottle of Manx spring water.

The set lunch offers a choice of two dishes for each course. I had perfectly cooked tempura queenies followed by hake goujons served with homemade chips and mushy peas. Again cooked to perfection. The fish was exceedingly fresh and coated in a light and super crispy batter.

Fabulous value for £14.95.

I can't wait to return to sample the lobsters et al on the specials board.

High quality food and serve. Soufflé special was excellent. I was a table for 1 and was made very welcome. Very central and beat expectations.

“Don't be put off by the outside”
Reviewed July 4, 2014

On my own in Douglas for the first time not sure where to eat and I stumbled upon MacFarlanes. Room for one? Yes no problem although the rest of the restaurant was full.the most fabulous goat cheese soufflé for starters and a more than adequate fish pie for mains meant they made one traveller very happy indeed. I would go there again with pleasure if ever in Douglas.
