I Stayed at the Palace Hotel 33 years ago when Keith Chegwin and the pop group The Bluebells who performed Young at Heart were on the island for the BBC show Saturday Superstore.The hotel exterior hasn't changed much from what I remember.This visit was for 4 days. I booked directly with the hotels own website and got a deal including Breakfast.I requested and was given a room on one of the upper floors.The room was clean and comfortable and the bathroom although a little small was good and well stocked with soaps and shampoo etc.The buffet breakfast was ample and really set us up for the day. A slight wait for fried eggs was the only minor thing as sometimes there is a rush on at the buffet.We used the pool each day and the view from the pool if Douglas Bay was amazing. Special mention to the staff the run the leisure club. Very courteous and the place was spotless.Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our time in the Isle of man in part due to the friendliness of everyone we met including all the hotel staff.Can't wait to come back and stay. Just wish the steam packet company would come up with some realistic prices.

Really horrible building but once inside, the place is not so bad. My room had a view over the bay. The room was sizeable, clean and comfortable. Staff were helpful and friendly.
Breakfast is the usual buffet and was ok without being anything special. Location is good on the sea front.

We stayed recently for 2 nights. The room was adequate and very clean. We had sea view which was nice.
We were especially impressed with breakfast and we ate in the restaurant one evening and cannot fault the food and service. In fact, upon learning that our flight on Sunday meant missing breakfast, we were encouraged to get room service at no extra cost (continental only before 7.30am)

Room 329 with panoramic view of Douglas Bay. Hotel shows no sign of improvement or updates since our last visit two years ago. Mattress was lumpy with very loud springs that made for an uncomfortable nights attempt at sleep. The staff as always were polite and friendly helping with parking and the room was kept clean.

On arriving at the Best Western we were a bit puzzled as to where the reception was, unlike most hotels where the reception is near the front door, the reception here is sort of up some stairs and round the back. Not a big problem but a bit worrying and confusing at the time as we were not sure that we were in the right building….
Our allocated bedroom was tiny! Hardly room to walk around, there was no room for any cases! Sleep quality was also very poor…. We were woken some mornings by the dustbinmen who arrived very early and made a tremendous amount of noise…. They also had kitchen deliveries each morning at 6. a.m. I am a heavy sleeper but they woke me. Also each morning early on the kitchen staff would leave the kitchen and chatter noisily and smoke just below our room…. We made a complaint to the front of house but they were quite unsympathetic. They offered us another room but explained that it may actually be noisier. We declined their offer and put up with the noise.
From the hotel we explored the island each day using the public busses which run from outside the hotel. They are very efficient and not expensive.
The pool was lovely we went swimming each day and enjoyed the experience.
Wi Fi was good.
We had breakfast each day in the restaurant which was good, lots of choice and good quality food..
To me the early morning noise and the size of the room let the hotel down.

Room tip: bring ear plugs.
