If you are able to stay on the I.O.M. for several days consider buying a Freedom or Rover ticket then you can hop on and off the trams and, if you wish, transfer to a steam train, horse tram or bus as they are all included making it great value and the best way to explore the island. The trams were all clean and allowed excellent views of the countryside.

Brilliant!!! Loved the night time trains in the dark. Just like stepping bakc in time. My favourite vintage railway on the Island.

“A rattling good time!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 9, 2013

The electric railway is a good way to see the coastline north of Douglas and is ideal for getting to Laxey and the mountain railway. Small children will enjoy waving at the stopped cars as the train rattles over the road crossings! However the ride is a bit of a boneshaker and also the carriage doors are quite high off the ground so not that easy to get on and off unless you are very agile.

“Rattle and Roll”

All the little backwaters and by ways are accessed from this part of the transport system. If your a walker get a good map and get on and off at the stops along the way.

“Shake rattle and roll”

It was never built for comfort but is an interesting experience, with good views of the coastline. We just went on tbe Douglas to Laxey section due to time constraints, so it was relatively expensive compared to the fare for the complete line. Good mug of tea at Laxey with local ice cream or cakes.
