The trains actually run to their timetable.......
Built by the Victorians, but LOVINGLY restored, the Steam Locos are meticulously cleaned every day. The Brass fittings are a sight to behold.
The Stations are clean & well maintained.
Every Station "lounge" offers, Tea, Cakes & Sandwiches.
A REAL TRIP DOWN NOSTALGIA LANE. *****

What fun to go back to the age of steam for a leisurely trip down the coast from Douglas, and at a reasonable price too.

I enjoyed a trip on the train from Douglas to Ballasalla. Although it takes longer than the car - it was nice to slow the pace down a little an have time to admire the scenery. It is great the the Isle of man hasn't lost things like steam trains and trams as it would be losing part of their heritage.

Four of travelled from the grand fin de siecle terminus at Douglas to Port Erin breaking off at Castleton on the way.Train on time just caught the 9 50am by the skin of our teeth and line was exceedingly busy outbound with a holiday group. Looked around the railway museum at Port Erin which is open on steam days and at £1 pp is a must. Coming back chatting to the guard we travelled 1st class at no extra charge but then we were making use of our pre purchased 5 day passes;otherwise the fare would be £12.40 return. Interestingly the compartments do not contain an emergency chain but the official line is that accidents are too rare to incude them.
