The stream journey, although not as scenic as the MER, is worth the journey. You step back in time as you purchase your ticket from the ticket hall and step on to the platform.
The trains are traditional steam locomotives, with traditional carriages which are individual compartments. Tip: Make sure you use the toilet if you are going all the way to Port Erin (or vice versa) as there are no toilets on the train.
You can take the journey as part of a pub crawl and stop off at public houses along the way. I did the whole journey without getting off until Port Erin.
The journey was pleasant and a throwback to a more romantic age of public transport. Well worth a trip.
