“Santon Motel Experience”
Reviewed June 14, 2013

we did not know what to expect as the ratings were a little off putting, But to put the record straight , we arrived early and Terry and his wife greeted us and said he has a room ready for us, we didnt expect it to be ready, but he explained he had a cancellation so we could have room 16 if we wanted, we of course said yes, as we had arrived on the overnight ferry, Terry Then asked us if we had been to the TT before, and we said no, he told us to go and get a rest for an hour and settle in, Then he came back later and said he would run us to Bradden Bridge to watch the first race, we was amazed that he would do that for us, The bus strike caused us some inconvenience, The next day Terrys wife stopped at the bus stop and ran us to Douglas( what a great gesture again) The manx People were brilliant, we even had locals stop and pick us up. The Santon is a little out of the way, not that far if the buses were regular but that was beyond Terrys control. The room was great, cleaned everyday and they are very helpful and polite The Santon is in a lovely area, if you can get a room round the back like we did you wont be disappointed, Plenty of parking space, we loved it, Well done to Terry and your Family, keep up the good work From Steve Sanderson and Gill.

Room Tip: number 16 round the Back, Brilliant.

Reception times are long, 8am-11pm. Staff are friendly & helpful. We had no mobile while over there and buses were on strike for the first half of our trip, they had no problem calling taxis for us. Room was spacious but a little outdated. Breakfast was very simple, croissant & bread roll heated up with a juice box and a piece of fruit. Only down side was the "shower" and this "unlimited hot water". It was a bath tube with a rubber shower head hose attached to the taps. Don't turn the cold water on, just use hot water and you will have a warm wash. As we stayed during TT we had to wake up at 6am to make sure we got a warm wash.

I spent a long weekend here in April with a few friends. We were interested to discover the many glens etc. sprawled across the island.

Despite the basic amenities of the motel, the room was clean, the staff friendly, with the spacious garden area and pleasant atmosphere making my stay ideal. I will most likely come here again, and would definitely recommend this place if you are looking for a quiet, well-situated motel with plenty of room for car-parking.

Have just stayed at the motel for 5 nights b&b. On the positive side, it is well situated with good access and vehicle parking, and the room was spacious with a constant supply of hot water. On the negative, the rooms were dated and it was very 1970s decor - tired and dark with a rusty waste bin and worn old net curtains. The room had central heating but i was supplied with an electric convector heater, and needed it ! Although it was cooler than usual for late August time, i was using the heater more than i would normally expect. The room service 'continental breakfast' was a 'hit and miss' affair, and on one occasion did not receive it until making an enquiry at reception. On other days it was delivered 10-15 minutes after the 8.30 a.m. time, which is not good when you need to be leaving your room no later than 8.40 hrs. For me, a breakfast needs to be offered at an earlier time.
I would have preferred the option of a shower but made do with the small bath and 'plug on' rubber shower hose.
If the Motel was regraded and re-priced as budget accomodation then my perception would change for the better.

We stayed here on the first night of our coastal walk. We weren't expecting much and were very pleasantly surprised by how clean and well kept the whole place was with a delightful garden in the centre of the complex. We didn't have a car and Terry, the owner, very kindly volunteered to give us a lift to the excellent Hop Garden restaurant a couple of miles away. Other reviews had lowered our expectations of the breakfast delivered to our room but the warm rolls and croissants couldn't have been fresher. In the morning, unable to raise a taxi, Terry once again volunteered to take our luggage on to our next destination. This place is great value, the service was exceptional and we had no complaints!

We went over to the Isle of Man for the TT race and stayed at the Santon Motel.

We were greeted by the lovely Terry who showed us to our room; which was clean and tidy.

Terry was very helpful with giving us local knowledge and even showed us the best places to watch the race.

We would recommend this friendly Motel ,,,
