Oh dear, if this is the best restaurant on the Island we're in trouble. We first went when the founder Butch Buttery was running it, and it was excellent. Then a couple of years ago when it was good but not AS good. And then last night, when it was decidely poor. Thick, stodgy undercooked queenie pancakes for starters, which managed to destroy any flavour in the queenies. Then for me a 1/2 lobster which was OK but nothing more, and for my wife the most unappealing-looking seafood gratin, over salty and generally unpleasant. Slow service, and noisy environment. We must have better than this on the Island?

Hello

Thank you for your feedback about our restaurant. The comments about your dining experience will be shared with the chefs and front of house team. I am sorry we did not meet your expectations on this and one other occasion. Did the diners whisper whilst eating when Butch owned it?.
We are proud of our top position on TripAdvisor but do not take it for granted. The ranking of restaurants on this site relies on independent reviews. To achieve a high ranking requires more positive reviews than less positive. Constructive feedback is welcome and very useful, praise is appreciated and shared to our team, comments about noise, former owners and the overall standard of the islands restaurants is not so useful. On a positive Butch might be available for private catering.

Best regards

This is an unpretentious seafood restaurant with generous portions. The decor is 'coastal' and beachy. It hasn't got the broadest menu but if you like your fish look nowhere else. I often bring business people here for lunch and they have all remarked on the food quality. The service is attentive and pricing reasonable. It's not the biggest place space wise and the acoustics aren't great. I see it as a better lunch venue than dinner. I have no problem recommending.

Went for my partners birthday in June. Beautiful meal, great service. It is of course a little bit more expensive than some eating places on the quay but then you get what you pay for.
Highly recommended.

Pre-booking recommended. Small and friendly; appeared very popular with local residents. Interesting selection of starters and a good range of seafood, both on the menu and the "Specials" boards. ("Whole turbot" for £24 sounded a real bargain but I would have needed a larger table). Wine list had a good range of styles and prices. In my short stay on the Isle of Man, this was the only restaurant I enjoyed.

In comparison to another seafood restaurant on the quay the food at Tanroagan wasn't in our opinion as good. The mussels and the salmon scotch egg were good, however the T bone steak with the cafe de Paris butter was very oily, and I had to scrape the butter from the meat as the flavours just weren't right which spoilt what should have been a great main meal. However the service was very good, maybe a little rushed but it was busy in the restaurant. The wine and atmosphere was lovely.
