“Overnight Valentine's Stay Package”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 2, 2014

We checked in to a smallish, clean sea view room which was smaller than what we'd expected. The view was nice though. Rooms are not well sound proofed as we could hear the man next door coughing during the night ! If a light sleeper (like me) bring ear plugs. The menu and food in the brasserie was lovely but the waiting staff seemed busy as there was also a Michael Bublé tribute carvery on in the function suite. Waiting 20 mins to be asked for our drinks order is unacceptable in my book. Eventually drinks arrived after the starter. Apart from this, it was a most pleasant stay and breakfast was good the next morning but there was a lack of cutlery on the table and we had to ask for teaspoons and milk etc. It was nice getting the red rose, chocolates and champagne as part of the package we'd selected and staff were very pleasant - it just needs to be more organised in places.

Room Tip: Choose sea view if possible.

Having stayed here in 2013 I retain my opinion that this is a decent hotel for a British seafront. It is about 10 minutes' walk from the town centre of Douglas on the seafront dominated by hotels and apartments. The same reception staff as a year ago, and travelling with a friend this time I had a twin room which was quite spacious.

The room was a little beyond functional: tea/coffee making facilities, reasonable size flat screen TV, enough chairs/desk space to ensure two people have enough room. The bathroom was cleaning and a couple of years off needing it's next refurbishment. A typical view of nothing from the window: I suspect sea views are available for a few extra £s.

The breakfast facilities have changed: previously it was a buffet in the downstairs restaurant, however this has closed. There was a lot of evidence of flooding along the seafront so I wonder if the downstairs restaurant has succumbed to flooding. Instead breakfast basics are served upstairs, with hot items cooked to order. There is a pricelist in the breakfast menu which is a little confusing as I believe rooms in this hotel are sold with breakfast. it probably isn't worth the £8.95 'walk in' price.

No immediate plans to return to the IOM but when/if I do I will probably check out the Empress first as somewhere to stay.

Room Tip: Be aware that if you haven't requested (or paid for?) a sea view you'll not have much of a v...

Hotel was very comfortable and clean, with helpful staff and an excellent position on the promenade. We stayed on the week following the motorcycle races and everywhere was quiet. The Island is in a time warp and has hardly changed since my last visit 50 years ago! Most of the seafront hotels appear to be converted to flats, and major rebuilding works are in progress at the town centre.

Room Tip: There was no air conditioning.

Hotel was very good rooms were lovely to a high standard, slept like a log. Bucks Fizz on arrival and evening meal was excellent. Entertainment was very good tribute to Michael Buble performed by Adam Brown. Breakfast was welcomed - only disadvantage was was breakfast finished at 9.45 considering you were up late being New Years Day.

Room Tip: Sea View or higher rooms have less noise

I stayed for 2 nights rooms dated and bathroom very smelly. Food expensive and poor quality. Staff friendly. Would not recommended my family to stay here.

Not a cheap hotel but not worth what you are paying.

My Husband and I stayed here this year while in the Isle of Man for the Manx Grand Prix this is an excellent hotel we had booked a room with a view of the promenade it was lovely ,the breakfasts were fantastic .
We have already booked for next year and can't wait to return ,While there we went to explore Glen Maye and had a lovely walk through the glen which took us to the sea ,this is a beautiful glen and a highlight of my visit to the Isle of Man ,there is a pub at the top of the Glen where we had something to eat after our walk would highly recommend.
Would also like thank Ann-Marie at the hotel for all her help in booking our stay ,loved our room .
