Stayed here in February and had a great time. The hotel has a seafront location, staff were very pleasant and helpful, the room was clean and modern. Food is buffet style so you can eat as much as you like and there is plenty of choice. They also had live entertainment at night, a piano player in the bar and a fantastic Rod Stewart impressionist calling himself Rod Stuart, brilliant! We are planning to return at christmas.

We had a fabulous stay in the Empress Hotel, sat right on the seafront with easy access to bars and restaurants nearby, you can't go wrong. The check in staff were friendly and courteous and our room was lovely, we were lucky enough to have a sea view which was beautiful. We didn't eat in the hotel, but talking to other people in the hotel they were very impressed with the hotel restaurant. We ate out in the evening and then went back to the hotel bar which was busy with a very relaxed atmosphere. After a great night sleep we enjoyed a fabulous breakfast, one of the best we have had, with a huge selection of cold and warm food, there is something for everyone. I would highly recommend this hotel, the staff are charming and helpful and Brian who is the hotel manager is one of the best you will come across.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view although i think they maybe a little extra in price, but lovely to wake up to.

Having had my fill of Douglas guest houses masquerading as hotels I let myself be taken in by the exterior of the Empress. What a let-down. Grumpy staff, room smaller than the bathroom of most 'proper' hotels, exciting view of the side of another building a (very) few metres away (there is mesh between the buildings, presumably to stop disappointed guests from doing themselves an injury when they take that leap .... although, as with almost all IOM hotels that I have tried, I worried about what would happen in case of fire so I suppose the mesh, if strong - and the fact that the windows can be opened - is a plus).

On the upside, my booking quoted free internet but the hotel services guide (in the room ) quotes £2.95 per hour. I was all set to complain but it turns out that there is no charge anymore. They should update their services guide.

Room Tip: Avoid the third floor. Ask for a room with a view.

We have stayed here a number of times for the Isle of Man Drama Festival - the after show bar is here so it saves the walk. Felt things were a little better this year.we had a good room with sea view, once scaffolding came down! It is a nice bar area and the food options in the bar early evening are now much better than they were. It certainly is a better option than the buffet downstairs which I don't like, and quicker and cheaper than the restaurant. The food in the bar was tasty and generously portioned. The pool has sadly gone for ever but there is now free wifi - although the signal strength and reliability isn't the best.

We were on a heritage coach trip, visiting heriltage attractions on vintage coaches.
The room was small but very clean. We had excellent meals in the evening with a good choice and the bar was reasonable. The staff were very helpful, and we can recommend the kippers!!
